I earned my degree from Cornell University in Comparative Literature, a major that requires extensive training in literary analysis, theory, and articulation of complex ideas. The ability to express myself with clarity, earnestness, and effective force is perhaps the most important thing I’ve gained, and I take great pleasure in in coaching students to do the same.

Although my primary focus is on literary essays for high school and college writers, I also specialize in Reading/Writing/Science/Essay for SAT and ACT. I begin with fundamental skills and then go in depth to explain the mindset of the test makers, with particular focus on the wording of questions. As students gain independence, I have them articulate their problem solving, make study guides, and zero in on their individual challenges when test-taking. I’ve seen great improvement in confidence as well as scores with this method.

I always prepare thoroughly for my sessions with students with any necessary background research or individualized worksheets. During our time together, I try to keep the interaction energetic, efficient, and, if at all possible, entertaining. Part of the pleasure in teaching is acclimating to the unique psychology of each student, and discovering what tactics or topics seem to awaken them. I like to give students the confidence to value their innate responses to the world, as well as to put their ideas in a broader perspective.

Feel free to contact me. I'm open to any questions, and will always respond promptly.

Approved Subjects

ACT English

ACT English

After a year tutoring students of all abilities, I have learned that every student needs individualized attention. That said, I always start by working on observational and memory skills while reading. On average, my students would improve their scores by 3-5 points after 5 weeks of tutoring.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I have tutored around 20 students in this subject, and regularly saw a 3 point increase after a dew sessions. As a Literature major, reading efficiently and incisively has become a well practiced skill. When teaching students, I emphasize the effectiveness of strategies such as underlining, summarizing, and reading aloud to improve their observations and memory.
Literature

Literature

After so much time spent studying literature, it continues to be a fascinating and rewarding subject that I love to teach and discuss. I like to start by emphasizing rhetorical analysis skills and then move to helping students developing themes and ideas. It is the combination of reading closely and thinking independently that makes literature so exciting.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

In addition to having passed the test myself at sufficient levels to enter the Ivy League, I also have a year's experience teaching SAT Reading to high school students of all levels through a local tutoring agency.
SAT Writing

SAT Writing

After tutoring students of all abilities for over a year, I have discovered that a student's difficulty with SAT writing is often not as straightforward as it seems. Although SAT writing often seems like a complex tangle of grammar rules, it is SAT's style of posing questions that presents the most difficulty, and in my tutoring, I focus on reading questions carefully to find the clues SAT has left.
Writing

Writing

Completing my major has involved countless hours of producing focused, organized and driven writing. Since highschool, my own writing has evolved immensely, and the problems that I and other highschoolers had have become more clear. In my tutoring, I emphasize thinking out the essay beforehand, planning carefully, and writing with intention and clarity.
