Hi, my name is Brenda and I have 15 years of in class elementary teaching experience. I have an innate ability to recognize what deficiencies might exist and what resources need to be implemented to help you be successful. But more importantly, I like learning to be fun!! I help build a sense of self-esteem, an I can do anything attitude, which allows you to be successful in all areas of life. Teaching has always been a passion, and even though I’m retired, I haven’t lost the passion to help those who need a little support.
I have taught kindergarten-2nd grade using Connecting Math Concepts, Saxon Math, and other resources. I have taught all spectrums in math, from the highest students, to those who needed remediation.
I have used Shurley Grammar for kindergarten-2nd grade. This program teaches jingles to help students be able to identify different parts of speech and to diagram a sentence. I have also taught reading, using the SRA Phonics reading system. After the foundation is laid, I move onto fluency.
I lay a foundation of recognizing sounds, regular and irregular, by using the SRA reading system, along with other resources. I have used the SRA spelling program, along with basic rules, instead of memorization. Teaching spelling rules helps to instill a long term understanding of spelling.
