Teaching others is truly my number one calling. I've been doing so for nearly 20 years and have worked with students of all levels, from elementary to advanced college. I started as a peer chemistry tutor while working on my Bachelor's degree at CSU in Ft. Collins and went on to lead the IB and AP chemistry programs at Rampart High School in Colorado Springs after earning a Master's degree in science education from Colorado College. After nine years teaching at Rampart, I became the Head of the Science Department at the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School, where I currently serve an extraordinarily diverse group of students today.

I am highly skilled at working with students of all ability levels in one-on-one or group settings, and absolutely live for the "ah-ha!" moments that happen when science is suddenly "de-mystified." As someone who struggled to learn chemistry myself throughout my high school and early college years, I love being able to share my unique, time-tested strategies with others as they work to master this notoriously tricky subject. Having taught over 4,000 students in my lifetime - from those who may consider it hopeless to those that seem to have been born experts - I can say with 100% confidence that ANYONE can learn this subject, and my role is to help you get there. Many of my students have moved on to earn their PhDs, become practicing physicians, or even become chemistry teachers themselves. Almost none of these individuals considered themselves to be any good at chemistry prior to enrolling in my class, or even particularly interested in it.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology from Colorado State University, with minors in biochemistry and microbiology. I graduated in the top 1% of my class of over 3,000 and was fortunate enough to intern with the Centers for Disease Control, USDA Crops Research Laboratory, and even Walt Disney World's integrated pest management team on site in Orlando FL. I have 12 years experience teaching chemistry at the high school and college levels, including AP, IB, honors, and college general chemistry I and II. I've also completed over 50 credit hours in chemistry and closely-related subjects as part of my undergraduate program in molecular biology and biochemistry at Colorado State University, with a cumulative GPA in these courses of 3.95. I currently head the science department at the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School, and our primary focus in this department is general chemistry with an emphasis in helping students transition from their high school chemistry course to the rigorous course they will enroll in at the Academy. In addition to demanding highly effective, diversified instruction, one of my chief responsibilities in this position is to design and execute an adaptive chemistry program for students of all abilities and backgrounds.

Great tutor

Kevin did a great job helping my daughter who was struggling in AP Chemistry. Although she has a fantastic instructor at school, my daughter needed more individual assistance and extra practice beyond what we could expect any classroom teacher to provide. Kevin is great at assessing the student's individual strengths and weaknesses and providing extra explanations and practice in the areas they struggle. My daughter really enjoyed working with him, and her grades really improved. My only regret is that we didn't hire him sooner. I would highly recommend Kevin to any student needing extra help in Chemistry.
