Hi, I'm Chris! I worked as a Music and English teacher at Community Prep School for 5 years and have taught since then at James Irwin Charter High School, the Colorado Springs Conservatory, and School of Rock Colorado Springs.

Having been a professional tutor since 2013, I've also had the opportunity to regularly interact with numerous students of diverse backgrounds and competencies, many of whom have been ESL/ELL students and individuals with language-based learning difficulties. I have tutored people as young as third graders and as accomplished as graduate program participants. My emphases include English grammar, formal and academic writing, creative fiction and nonfiction, literary criticism, and PSAT/SAT/ACT preparation. I can also do work with students in reading remediation and general executive functioning (organization, homework help, etc).

Guitar

Guitar

I've been playing guitar in a semi-professional capacity for at least 20 years. Being part of multiple bands and recording projects, I have two official releases that are available through Amazon MP3, iTunes, and other major digital distribution sites. I've also written and recorded several dozen other unreleased songs. In lessons, I have placed an emphasis on song-based learning that promotes passion for the material and strengthens musical proficiency over the long term. Aside from teaching singing, keyboards, strings (guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele, violin), and percussion (drum kit, cajón, tambourine), I have developed and taught multiple courses related to music performance and theory, studio recording, and song and lyric writing. As an active artist and musician in Colorado, I’ve had experience performing in venues like the Black Sheep, Sunshine Studios, the Marquis Theater, Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, and the Roxy Theatre. I have written, recorded, and played music in various genres but have always had a particular fondness for classic rock, punk rock, metal, alternative rock, and post-punk. Most of my recent work has been instructing students with a song-based approach within these genres. In my teaching role at Community Prep, I have also used Logic Pro and Cockos Reaper on a daily basis to produce hundreds of recording and mixing projects with students.

Proofreading

I've been a professional editor for ten years and majored in English for my undergraduate program.
Violin

Violin

I started playing violin in middle school, and within several years I was the principal violinist in my high school orchestra. Since then, I've played with numerous bands, contributed to soundtrack scores, and performed in a professional and volunteer capacity in various venues. As a private violin instructor, I have taught beginner and intermediate-level students for several years. I rely on the Ivan Galamian method for my instruction, with an additional emphasis on teaching sight reading as well as ear training and improvisation.
