My name is Melissa and I am originally from Minnesota. My husband and I live with our two daughters in Colorado. I have primarily worked as an attorney in Colorado Springs, specializing in domestic relations and civil litigation, and for half of my 15-year career, I ran my own law firm. In 2012, I graduated from William Mitchell College of Law (in Saint Paul, Minnesota) with my JD and prior to that, I attended Minnesota State University, Mankato and received my BA in Political Science and Business Law.

I am the older sister to 4 kids (3 girls and 1 boy, ranging in age from 35 to 18), which has prepared me immensely for working with children of all ages. I previously coached recreational and competitive gymnastics as well. I have experience with teaching at the high school level through the Marshall Brennan Program, in which law students are placed in high schools to teach 12th grade government classes. During this experience, I handled the educational aspect as well as learned how to teach to different levels of students and build relationships in order to encourage success! I accompanied two 12th-grade students to a National Moot Court competition in Washington D.C. where I was their coach and mentor.

I have also worked as a college mentor, advising on admissions essays, testing, resume-writing, and helping seniors and college students continue their higher level educational endeavors.

I enjoy working with all ages of students and truly believe education is the cornerstone of our lives. My teaching style is structured and organized, but also fun! I am comfortable working with students on many different subjects and with many different learning styles. I hope the tutoring experience will help your student overcome learning obstacles or excel in a particular topic as well as develop an excitement for learning. I also hope that through this experience, I will learn a thing or two myself!
