I'm a 4th year Computer and Electrical Engineering student at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, with additional engineering study experience at Ritsumeikan University in Osaka, Japan. I am minoring in both Mathematics and Japanese. My coursework includes an extensive amount of calculus and linear algebra and I regularly work one-on-one with students through the university's Japanese program. Since my year living and studying in Japan, l have become conversationally comfortable in Japanese and am currently studying for the JLPT N2 exam.
Within the Japanese program at UCCS, I currently assist with grading and evaluating student work in introductory grammar, vocabulary, and writing. This has helped me understand common challenges beginners face, especially at the JLPT N5 and N4 levels. Throughout the past decade, I've held a variety of instructional roles from urban gymnastics coaching to conducting makerspace workshop classes so I am especially comfortable working with new learners in a variety of topics, and I focus on helping students develop a strong foundation through clear explanations that adapt to the student's learning style.
I strongly believe that tutoring, coaching and teaching are all a two way street where the instructor must also take the time to understand the student to provide proper instruction. Whether we are working on algebra, calculus, or Japanese, I recontextualize concepts and explain not just how to solve a problem, but how to understand the underlying principles. I adapt my approach to each student’s needs, using visual explanations, step-by-step guidance, or conversational practice as needed. My goal is to create a learning environment that encourages students to become motivated by their own progress and find enjoyment in the learning process itself.
