Often, I teach by reviewing previous skills to work up to the skills required in class.
I do this to support student learning by helping students understand where the math came from, instead of telling them steps. Once the students understand the process, we can work on step-by-step instructions.
As a student in middle school and high school, I was told that I wasn't good at math.
Later, I had a great teacher who taught me how math works and try to do the same for other students.
