I am a former history and philosophy teacher who is now pursuing their PhD but wants to stay connected to education while doing so. I am originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, but have been living out in Colorado for the past three years! I originally came out here to teach at Fountain Valley Boarding School, but after a few years of teaching felt a yearning to continue my education and decided to act on the impulse and left high school education in order to pursue a PhD. While studying, however, I still deeply miss the connection of teaching, and as a result am tutoring in order to still pursue my passion for working with students.
My educational history is varied which allows me to cover many different types of content. I received two degrees from Western Carolina University in history and philosophy, and then immediately went on to get my Master's in Theology from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. As a result, I am well versed in the subjects of history, philosophy, and religion which allows me to help guide students through whatever humanities subject they want assistance with while also implementing a multitude of writing and critical analysis strategies depending on the material. My background helps me to diversify my approach based on the student so that I can meet them where they are in order to allow them to succeed.
My education experience is primarily with the high school level where I have been teaching the past few years, but I also have past experience working with college and Master's students. I was a tutor while attending Western Carolina University as well as a teachers assistant at McCormick Theological Seminary. Thus, I feel very confident helping students at many different levels! My specialties are in world and European history, world religions, and philosophy, but no matter the subject, I feel assured in my ability to apply effective strategies that will help students succeed! I hope I can help you grow in your own educational journey!
