Hi,

My name is Meredith, and I would love to work with your child. I have over 25 years of experience in the education field, ranging from running my own private school with a one-room classroom, to homeschooling my children, teaching in charter schools and even in charter administration. I have developed curriculum programs and tutoring programs and have co-authored a series of reading/writing and phonics books to teach children to learn how to read in only 100 lessons. I have also designed a research based executive functioning curriculum for all ages that I successfully implemented in both middle and high school charter school resource classrooms.

I started tutoring in 2002. Most of the students I work with have some form of learning disability or special needs. I have experience with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, ASD, Tourette's, OCD, and other health impairments. I’m currently working full time as a special education teacher at a charter high school.

The parent and I become partners in their child's education, and I welcome parents to sit in on any session with their child. I look forward to hearing from you and finding ways to help your student succeed! Let's work together to change lives today.

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

My son has ADHD, as does my husband. I have also tutored numerous children with ADD/ADHD.
Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign

I use InDesign on a daily basis as a graphic designer. I have created newsletters, advertisements, as well as handbooks, and an entire reading and writing curriculum.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have tutored several children in Algebra 1 successfully. I personally struggled with Algebra terribly in high school, which I believe is to my advantage, because now I can understand a child's frustration, and teach them techniques to make the process easier and more understandable.
American History

American History

American history is a favorite subject of mine. I enjoy sharing my love for history with my students. One of my favorite questions to ask is, "What do you think it was like living like that?" I think that my approach to history helps a student appreciate living in a more modern time, as well as truly appreciate those who have gone before us.
Anatomy

Anatomy

Human Anatomy is one of my favorite aspects of science. I have taken pre-med level anatomy, and medical terminology, both of which helped greatly when I took Emergency Medical Technician. Because of my experiences, I like to add information about each organ or system being studied that my students find fascinating.
ASVAB

ASVAB

I tutored a 19-year old student with severe developmental delays for 6 months and prepped him to pass the ASVAB. He passed all of his practice tests with me with scores above 90%.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Both of my children, whom I homeschooled through 8th grade, are on the Autism Spectrum. I spent 20 years teaching and tutoring children with ASD in my home before I completed my Bachelors degree with a dual licensure in Special Education and Elementary Education. I have a Master’s Degree in Educational Instruction Design and have written research based programs to help children with ASD learn executive functioning skills and life skills.
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I have gone to church regularly all my life, and lead devotions with my children 3 times a week. I have taken classes at Community Bible Study (CBS), as well as through my church for many years. I am familiar with AWANA, Pioneer Clubs, and other Bible study programs.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

My daughter and husband both have dyslexia, as does my mother. I am currently tutoring two other children with dyslexia as well.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently teaching a 5th grader, a 4th grader and a 7th grader in all subject areas. I have been teaching my children, and others, since kindergarten, and have seen 1.5-2 years progress in all subjects each year. I can teach any aspect of elementary education at any time.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I am a homeschool mom and have tutored children in Elementary Math for over 10 years. I can focus solely on the child's homework and help them understand it, and/or we can improve mental math skills and learn new techniques using the Right Start Mathematics Tutoring Program.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I have taught elementary science (grades 1-6) for the past 5 years and have also taught and tutored high school biology, physical science, and some chemistry. I adore science! It's one of my favorite subjects, and I love sharing that with my students.
English

English

I am a stickler for proper English, and have fun ways to teach it to children so that it "sticks" for them too!
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I have been writing curriculum for the past 30 years, most recently a curriculum for all ages that teaches executive functioning skills. I use this research based program in my middle and high school resource classes, and it was even implemented schoolwide. Homeschooling programs like World Over Academy have purchased my program to share it with more students.
Geography

Geography

I LOVE geography! Maps, countries and cultures fascinate me. I enjoy searching out what life is like in other parts of the world and sharing that fascination with my students.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is my favorite aspect of mathematics. I enjoy using a hands-on approach to math whenever possible, and, in my opinion, geometry is one of the best ways to make math more real to a child.
Grammar

Grammar

Proper grammar usage shows others that a child has been educated properly. I am a stickler for proper English and grammar with all of my students. However, I also have ways to make it more fun! Grammar doesn't have to be boring.
Literature

Literature

In my adult years, I have come to appreciate good literature much more than I did as a student. I would love to share that appreciation with your child, and open their eyes to the world of wonderful authors.
Macintosh

Macintosh

Everything I do is on a Macintosh, and I have only worked on a Macintosh computer. The Apple store is one of my favorite places to go!
Phonics

Phonics

I have co-authored the Learning Rivers reading/writing/phonics program. I am also a LearningRx certified PACE trainer where we train children in processing skills and phonemic awareness. I have trained children in phonics skills for over 10 years.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have homeschooled and tutored for over 10 years, and found that pre-algebra is one of my strongest areas of math skills. As a student, I struggled terribly with algebra skills, and learned many tricks and tips that I can now share with struggling students to make their journey much simpler.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I am a stickler for proper English, grammar and spelling. I can proofread your work, and/or help teach you how to proofread your own material. I pay very close attention to detail, as well as syntax and sentence structure. I work for a private school, and one of the parts of my job is to proofread term papers for a Senior Composition class. I try very hard to give positive, constructive criticism to encourage and help the writer grow.
Reading

Reading

I have co-authored the reading/writing program Learning Rivers that teaches children to read, write and spell every sound in the English language in only 100 lessons. I also implement a reading comprehension program and see several years' growth in only a few months with my students.
Social Studies

Social Studies

I love to teach social studies! I especially like teaching it hands-on, and sharing a love of history with my students. One of my favorite questions to ask is, "What do you think that would have been like to live in...?" I like to encourage my students to put themselves in the shoes of those who have come before us, or imagine themselves in other situations. It really gives them an appreciation for what they have as Americans, and living in a modern society.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have tutored children with special needs of all kinds for 10 years. I have experience with: Asperger's ADHD Dyslexia ADD Tourette's OCD Developmental Delays Functional Disconnect Syndrome
Spelling

Spelling

Spelling is important, and a lack of phonemic awareness is one of the major causes of spelling issues. I train children how to hear the sounds of the words they are writing, thereby linking their ears, mouth, eyes and hands to build brain connections and make spelling easy. Also, I use colors and pictures as well as visualization techniques to help children remember their words forever.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I find a good vocabulary a sign of an educated person. Also, I find it fascinating to improve my vocabulary, decode prefixes, suffixes and root words. I like to play games with my students to improve their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Writing

Writing

I have co-authored the reading/writing program Learning Rivers, which teaches children how to read and write every sound and spelling in the English language in only 100 lessons. One of the unique aspects of this program is that it also teaches children to write creatively. I love to write stories and help children develop an informative, well-written research paper. I have also helped children write essays, poems, and book reports.
