As a passionate teacher who has taught over 800+ AP Human Geography students, I am quite proud of the fact I launched AP Human Geography in two high schools and was recognized as the National Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award for my teaching of this amazing course! I am also the author of the widely-used REA AP Human Geography Crash Course textbook, helping hundreds of thousands of students earn their goal score on the AP exam - which is my inspiration behind why I tutor!

I am also the author of the widely-used REA AP Human Geography Crash Course textbook, helping hundreds of thousands of students earn their goal score on the AP exam - which is my inspiration behind why I tutor!

With students I tutor, I comprehensively and methodically review the key modules in the AP Human Geography course, including curated exam-like sample questions and rubrics from the College Board's released resources. We frequently practice MCQs I have authored and researched, FRQs from the College Board, and practice skills from the Course Description. I teach my students how to unpack the FRQ questions, analyzing the key command terms, and we even learn from released student samples from the College Board, amidst many other study strategies.

For students who book a minimum of 8 sessions with me, I develop a comprehensive study plan for them, including curated resources to study, lists of key terms, models, and concepts, and assignments of practice FRQs leading up to the exam.

Building my students' self-efficacy and confidence is of paramount importance to me. I want my students to find their "inner-genius," as I deeply believe it exists in all of my students. I pride myself in creating a rigorous and friendly learning environment for my students to help them earn their goal score on the AP exam and gain admission to prestigious universities - which I know how to navigate (I received my doctorate from the top-ranked Vanderbilt University). Our freshman daughter has been working with Dr. Christian S. for a couple of weeks now in preparation for her AP Human Geography course & AP exam, and the experience has been exceptional. His background in the subject is what led us to reach out to him. He communicates with clarity, demonstrates patience, and comes prepared with well-organized materials and relevant real-life examples. Each session is highly productive (the writing exercises help her with critical thinking), and his approachable demeanor creates a comfortable and supportive learning environment.
