I am a retired college math professor with 30+ years of experience teaching college math courses. In addition to teaching courses like Calculus and Linear Algebra for math and science students, I have taught numerous “math for teachers” courses. I have been tutoring K-12 math students online since 2020, and I have ten years of experience grading the AP Calculus exam (AB and BC).

My primary focus is helping students understand mathematical concepts through the use of pictures, diagrams, interactive software, and verbal descriptions. This understanding then leads naturally to increased proficiency with computational procedures, which I also help students practice. I do not simply tell my students how to solve problems; rather, I help them build on what they already know in order to discover the solutions to new problems.

I hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Oregon. I can help students in any K-12 math course except high school level Statistics. At the college level, I can provide assistance for students in College Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, first-year Calculus, Discrete Math, “Intro to Proofs” courses, Linear Algebra, Abstract/Modern Algebra, Combinatorics, and “Math for Teachers” courses.

Incredible Calculus Tutor

When my son first started his calculus course this fall, he was struggling to grasp and understand the material he was given. After a few weeks had gone by, I found Mrs. Barbara on this app and setup recurring lesson for my son. Her insights and tutoring were extremely helpful for me son. In a matter of weeks he went from struggling, to being one of the stronger students in his class. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for help on a calculus course.

Highly Recommended College Algebra and Trigonometry Tutor

I worked with Barbara to prepare for trigonometry and college algebra, and she honestly made a huge difference in my grades as well as my overall class workload. Every session felt fine-tuned to the material I was going over. She’d find exactly what I was stuck on, walk me through the steps until it clicked, and give me practice problems that were similar to what was on my tests. Because of her help, I got good marks on every exam. What I appreciated most was how much she cared. Barbara was flexible with scheduling, never rushed me, and adjusted explanations to fit how I learn. After each lesson, she gave me neat summaries of the problems we’d done plus extra practice to work on between sessions. Those notes and the extra material were way more useful than my lectures from my college professor, who failed to explain what Barbara taught me. If you need help in trig or college algebra, I’d absolutely recommend Barbara. 11 out of 10 stars! She’s patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and goes the extra mile to make sure you really understand the concepts. I still have to take precalculus and calculus and will certainly reach out to Barbara for more tutoring sessions.

Patient and Knowledgeable Tutor.

Barbara is a fantastic tutor! She is evidently very knowledgeable; yet, she is also able to distill her knowledge into its fundamental constituents to facilitate her students' greater understanding. I appreciate that she does not merely explain, but rather, helps her students work their way through a problem, providing a guiding nudge when necessary. In short, I would highly recommend working with Barbara!

Excellent and knowledgeable math tutor.

I found the session with Barbra incredibly helpful. Her explanations were very clear and helped break down a complicated unit in understandable bites. Her tutoring allowed me to learn the basics of a whole unit in just under an hour. And throughout the session she was incredibly patient and pleasant to learn from. I would highly recommend her.
