I'm a Rice University graduate with two degrees, a minor, and an honors thesis. I spent seven years volunteering and working as an EMT and paramedic through college, and I'm an instructor for the American Heart Association. I have three years of experience teaching CPR and First Aid; I also taught a semester-long college course while at Rice. I really enjoy helping students take a difficult concept and turning it into something they understand, and I favor discussion-based teaching over straight lecturing.

In high school, I was an AP Scholar with Honor, so I'm familiar with AP exams and how to study for them. I've written more research papers than I can even remember, so I'm always available for proofreading and critiquing essays. Additionally, I'm a horseback rider and SCUBA diver, and I'm working on a pilot's license. I love to get out and try new things, and I hope to encourage that same enthusiasm and curiosity about the world in the students I tutor.

I have a degree in Chemistry, with a minor in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, from Rice. During my time as an undergrad, I took a wide variety of specialty classes within both fields. Additionally, I have gained real-world experience with anatomy/physiology, cardiology, and pharmacology during my seven years as an Emergency Medical Technician.

I also have a degree in Medieval and Early Modern Studies from Rice University, a discipline that required a significant amount of critical analysis and writing research papers. During my senior year, I wrote an honors thesis that was praised for its command of grammar and rhetoric.

Please feel free to reach out to me! I'm happy to tutor in pretty much anything, and if I can't tutor you in the subject you need, I can probably point you in the direction of someone who can!

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

My Chemistry degree required a significant amount of advanced math, such as Calculus and Differential Equations. Chemistry requires the regular use of algebra, to the point that many students are expected to do complicated equations in their heads. Furthermore, I spent several weeks in 2011 helping teach a high school AP Calculus class when the instructor was in the hospital, and feel very comfortable teaching math.
American History

American History

In high school, I took the AP US History exam, on which I received the highest possible score of 5. Additionally, I received an "A" in the class, and I tutored other high school students taking the SAT Subject Tests in US History.
Anatomy

Anatomy

I have been an EMT for five years, and recently received my paramedic licensure; both of these require at least one anatomy and physiology course. I have volunteered on a college campus, as well as a rural ambulance, where I have been exposed to a wide variety of medical and traumatic emergencies. Treating both acute and chronic conditions naturally requires a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology.
Biology

Biology

I have a minor in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University. Additionally, as a paramedic, I'm required to utilize my knowledge of biology and physiology every day. Finally, I have tutored students in AP Biology for several years now, and I feel very comfortable with the subject.
Business

Business

I received my Master's in Business Administration from the University of North Texas in only 11 months. In that time, I was on the Dean's List every semester, and I graduated with a GPA of 4.0. I also have 2 years of experience as a small business owner, 2 years of experience managing small teams as a lead paramedic, and 6 months of experience in my current position of Assistant Manager. At the moment, I help manage a team of about 50 employees.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have a BA from Rice University in Chemistry. I took, in total, over 60 hours of class and labs in chemistry and biochemistry during my time at Rice, including courses in physical chemistry and cell biology. My organic geochemistry course, in particular, was taught at a graduate level; I received an A in this course. Additionally, I volunteered for five years as an EMT, a job that requires a solid understanding of pharmacokinetics.
European History

European History

One of my degrees is in medieval and early modern history, with a focus on the European Renaissance and Arthurian legend. Additionally, my honors thesis was written on medieval equestrian warfare; I examined aspects of both art history and military history in writing my thesis. I also took several classes in medieval religions and scientific thought.
Literature

Literature

I took both AP Language and AP Literature exams in high school, and received a score of 5 on both exams. As part of my medieval/early modern studies degree, I took several classes in Renaissance and Shakespearean literature. Additionally, I have a great love for classic novels, and often read them in my spare time.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I tested out of the introduction to critical essay writing required for all Rice students my freshman year. Additionally, the vast majority of classes in my medieval studies major required 6-12 pages essay for their midterm and final grades; I routinely received grades of "A" in these classes. Finally, I wrote a 40-page honors thesis my senior year, a process which required effective use of both rhetoric and grammar.
World History

World History

In high school, I received a 5/5 on the AP World History exam, as well as an "A" in the course. Additionally, one of my undergraduate degrees was in Medieval and Early Modern History. When I was president of the medieval club at Rice University, we held events exploring medieval history from around the world.

Amazing tutor!

We have been working with Samantha over the past year and she has definitely helped my daughters with their advanced math and science classes. Samantha is friendly, outgoing, and is easy to work with (you don't always get that with every tutor). Samantha is also very capable of tutoring different subjects, and we really like the way she patiently works through the material until it is fully understood.

I don't know how to express how amazing she is

Samantha is such a kind and loving person and an even better tutor. In only three lessons she prepared me for an exam on two chapters I didn't even know where to start with and my grade went up by almost 40 points. In the past month she has become more than just a tutor, she is a friend. I don't know where I would be without her and I'm blessed to have her by my side.

I only used her once so far..I told her briefly what my son was looking for. He needed help with his homework. She was prepared beforehand and helped him immensely..she made history fun and interesting and cleared all his doubts. I would highly recommend her and definitely use her again in a heart beat.
