As a veteran middle school science educator of 22 years and counting in a K-8 public school, I have many years of experience working with students. In addition to teaching middle school science, I also tutored with Tutor.com online tutoring (elementary math, elementary science, Earth science, and Biology) for seven years and, most recently, with Pear Deck online tutoring (biology and basic math) the past year-and-a-half.
During tutoring sessions, I prefer to conduct all sessions with the "RAISE" approach:(R)apport-building, (A)ssessment of prior knowledge, (I)ndividualized instruction with scaffolding, (S)ummarizing new learnings from the session, and (E)ncouraging the student throughout the session with process praise. Additionally, I always set an academic goal for the student to achieve during each session; this approach maintains focus, consistency, and learning throughout the session.
Overall, I have many years of experience both teaching and tutoring and look forward to applying that expertise with students at Wyzant.
