Succeeding academically throughout high school led me to think that I should pursue a career in law, but after attaining Bachelors in Political Science from UC Berkeley, a Masters in Special Education from Loyola Marymount, and reading a few spectacular books, I decided to return to school in pursuit of a childhood passion. I am now a transfer student at CU-Boulder studying Engineering Physics, with hopes to eventually pursue a Ph.D. Although it seems like a counter-intuitive jump, I believe that math and science can offer extensive explanations or solutions to the various dilemmas covered in humanities; plus, it would be kind of cool if I became an astronaut one day!

I particularly love supporting students with Calculus, Physics, and Trigonometry. There are endless visual or auditory supports that can bring these subjects to life and a strong foundation in these subjects can allow students greater access to advanced math or science classes in the future. I am also qualified to tutor in ACT/SAT prep (cleared by other companies), supporting students through the content, but more importantly, test taking strategies and test anxiety reducing practices.

My time at Berkeley significantly impacted my perspective on education and my personal goals, leading me to join Teach for America upon graduation. I taught special education at an inner city middle school for four years, focusing on individualized learning supports for students to succeed in a general education setting. This experience challenged me to learn various teaching strategies that met each student's individual learning styles for different content. I love finding interactive ways to help students grasp complex and abstract topics! Often, a catchy tune, a kinesthetic practice, or a visual reminder can be the light bulb for understanding a subject that previously felt unattainable. I hope to bring these strategies and tips to each tutoring session, ensuring that each student is learning through their unique style.

ADHD

ADHD

I worked with various students that were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD for four years as a Special Education teacher. In that time, I learned various strategies to help students with this diagnosis access the general education curriculum. Additionally, my Master's in Special Education from Loyola Marymount prepared me to use the Universal Design for Learning to ensure my teaching strategies could be accessed by students with different learning styles.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have passed the necessary tests on various tutoring platforms to qualify for Algebra tutoring. Algebra is one of my favorites!
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I worked with various students that were diagnosed with Autism for four years as a Special Education teacher. In that time, I learned and implemented various strategies to help students with this diagnosis access the general education curriculum. For most students with Autism, I focused on behavior management, social skills, and self-regulation strategies.
Common Core

Common Core

I began teaching Common Core aligned lessons in 2012-13 school year. In my teacher evaluation, which is based on lesson observations, student test scores, and surveys, I scored "Effective Teacher" for two years (mostly scores of 3, with a couple 2s and 4s, out of 4) and "Highly Effective Teacher" for the 2014-15 school year. I have received extensive training (over 300 hours) to teach Common Core lessons, provided by the district I worked with. As an Instructional Leader for the 2014-15 school year, I received additional in-depth training on Common Core strategies to increase reading and writing skills across all disciplines. Additionally, as head of the Special Education department, I received training on adapting such lessons and strategies for students with special needs.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I have completed college level Calculus 1 and Calculus 2, both with grades of A. I averaged A's on my quizzes and tests. My professors from these classes have written letters of recommendation for me.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I worked with various students that were diagnosed with Dyslexia for four years as a Special Education teacher. In that time, I learned various strategies to help students with this diagnosis access the general education curriculum, such as using larger print, requesting handouts in certain text types, and using bookmarks to keep their spot while reading extended text.

Hard of Hearing

I worked with various students that were diagnosed as Hard of Hearing for four years as a Special Education teacher. Most students that I worked with that were Hard of Hearing needed support with improving their speaking/communication skills, learning to advocate for their auditory supports, and learning visual strategies to substitute auditory input.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have passed the necessary tests on various tutoring platforms to qualify for Prealgebra tutoring. Additionally, I taught at the Middle School level for four years and worked with students on making Prealgebra and Algebra more accessible through interactive lessons, intriguing visuals, and real life application. I love helping students with Math, but Prealgebra and Algebra are some of my favorites!
Special Needs

Special Needs

I worked with various students that had many different special needs for four years as a Special Education teacher. My students' skills and necessary supports ranged from students with Aspergers that were in advanced Math classes but had a third grade reading level, to students that were in Middle School and still struggling to add or subtract. In that time, I learned and implemented various strategies to help students with different needs access the general education curriculum. Some of the common topics I would focus on included organization skills, basic reading/math/writing skills, and self-regulation. Additionally, my Master's in Special Education from Loyola Marymount prepared me to use the Universal Design for Learning to ensure my teaching strategies could be accessed by students with different learning styles.
