Hi! I have a lot of experience when it comes to teaching math and chemistry. To begin, I taught recitation and labs for General Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry through the University of Colorado at Boulder during the years of 2009-2014. Afterwards, I accepted a one-year teaching position through Americorps teaching high school experiential-based learning in math, science, and physical education. After my fellowship ended, I taught two semesters of Introductory Chemistry and General Chemistry I at Red Rocks Community College in Golden, CO.
I love math! I have taught high school math before and have a teaching license from the state of colorado for mathematics education grades 7-12.
I have a Masters degree in Chemistry and have taught chemistry to high schoolers, undergraduates, and non-traditional students over the past six years.
I'd love the opportunity to help you get on track for your learning goals! Hi! I have a lot of experience when it comes to teaching math and chemistry. Athena is the first tutor I've ever worked with and she is great. My biggest fear with getting a tutor was that I would end up with someone who was really smart in the subject, but had no clue had to teach it. Lucky for me, Athena knows the material very well and has had experience teaching it in the classroom setting. She's super easy to get a hold of and is always willing to meet with me if she is available. I have a couple more semesters of chemistry to take and I plan to continue working with her throughout them!
Athena took a years worth of difficult to conceptualize Chemistry and condensed down into something that made sense-all in two hour long sessions! My daughter not only did well on her final but felt MUCH more confident with the material!
Athena helped my daughter with Honors Chem. She knew her material and explained it in a way that made sense. Athena was easy to understand, patient and kind. Prompt to respond to scheduling tutor times.
Our 10th grader really likes her chem tutor as she is prepared and focuses on the job in hand and covers what my daughter needs, she got an A on her last test after 1 session with Athena!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
