The reason I love working as a tutor is because I have had phenomenal experiences with my tutors in the past. I know the feeling of having a topic be crystal clear after working with a challenging, motivational tutor. I have been a full-time science and math tutor for seven years, and have experience with students ranging from ages 14-45. Topics such as biology, anatomy, or genetics can be very dense at first, and I understand the value of being able to explain concepts in multiple ways from different angles. I make every lesson personalized, and I always look for feedback on how my teaching can be improved, but also what I am doing well and should continue.

Science is fun! Almost like an onion, different science topics can always be unwrapped in more and more detail. Over my five years of tutoring experience, I have developed a sense of how deep to dive on a particular topic in order to help a student best understand the concepts. Sometimes delving more deeply into a topic is just what a student needs to understand and succeed.

I love to teach, and I am motivated by the successes and improvements of my students. I am willing to meet in any convenient location, and would love to help you succeed!

Accuplacer

Accuplacer

Math: The math test was overhauled in 2016 and now more closely resembles courses that students will take during their freshman year. There are three large sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS), Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF), and Arithmetic. I have been working with math students through calculus for over eight years, and we will cover each of the three sections during the duration of our test preparation. Writing: The writing test asks students to efficiently, intelligently, and correctly edit multiparagraph text. The test is comprised of two large sections. First, is the 'Expression of Ideas' which asks students to better develop and organize a piece of text. Secondly is the 'Standard English Conventions' which covers the basics of English grammar. As a published academic author and copywriter, I have the experience to work with students in BOTH sections - they are equally important. Reading: The main goal of the Accuplacer Reading test is to test students' ability to derive meaning from text. This applies to words and phrases in both short and extended contexts. I help students to not just memorize patterns and vocab, but to actually develop a suite of strategies to attack each question in a manner that is personalized to them.
ACT Math

ACT Math

The ACT math section is a fast paced, stimulating section of the test. 60 questions in 60 minutes is a lot! I focus my ACT Math lessons on two things: 1) Focusing on understanding problems on the page, and the steps to successfully answering each one. 2) Building or rebuilding the underlying skills that students need to answer more complex problems that draw on several content areas. Through both of these focuses my students score better, learn more, and are able to build upon these math skills for further learning.
ACT Science

ACT Science

The ACT science portion is often times the most difficult for students. The section is very fast (40 questions, 35 minutes) and is divided into three sections: data representation, research summaries, and conflicting viewpoints. Often times previous science knowledge is not an indicator of ACT science success, because the portion is about scientific reading and reasoning, not base scientific knowledge. I specialize in communicating science research and writing to the public, and I understand how difficult reading studies and interpreting figures can be. I teach students how to quickly and efficiently interpret data, and how to understand which portions of a passage are useful.
Anatomy

Anatomy

I'm had the pleasure of serving as an undergraduate TA for intermediate physiology courses as well as a graduate TA for introductory graduate-level anatomy courses. I think understanding both the student side and the teaching side is an essential part of a qualified A&P tutor.
Biology

Biology

My educational and professional background are rooted in biology. I hold my bachelors degree in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development, and have been working with high school, college, and graduate students in biology for over eight years. I have the knowledge to provide context in the topics that you or your student are learning, which is essential to having the well-rounded biological knowledge that will lead to success!
Chemistry

Chemistry

I started working with chemistry students 8 years ago, and have since taught hundreds of students. Chemistry is a difficult subject to grasp because every concept is so inter-related. I work with students to understand the fundamental concepts so that further concepts come easier!
GED

GED

There are many reasons that a student chooses to sit for the GED exam. One common theme is that you want to pass the test and continue your development! I have an efficient, structured, and effective GED program that guide you to a successful GED experience.
Genetics

Genetics

I hold my B.S. in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Genetics is hard! The topics seem to fluidly move between conceptual and physical, all while moving between prokaryotes and eukaryotes, humans and other animals, and multicellular and single-celled. I can help you to understand these concepts clearly and efficiently. Whether you're studying bacterial genetics, linkage, meiosis, or a host of other topics, I can help you to succeed.
MCAT

MCAT

The MCAT is a beast of a test; it requires an experienced, knowledgeable tutor to navigate the sheer variety and complexity of topics covered. I focus on the specific test-strategy and scientific literacy skills required to succeed on the MCAT. We are able to accomplish this through a mix of targeted practice problems, passage analysis skills, and inter-topic literacy. I have experience teaching and communicating each of the sciences tested - biology, chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and math. I would love to help you be ready to crush your MCAT come test day!
Photography

Photography

I have worked as a professional photographer in portrait and sports photography for four years. I primarily contract with climbing companies and mountain bike companies to shoot on-premise action and candid. I work with students to understand the fundamentals of shooting in fast-paced environments and make on-the-fly adjustments to focal length, aperture, lens, and more.
Proofreading

Proofreading

A qualified, competent proofreader will make the difference in your college essay, paper, or thesis. I proofread papers for language use, syntax, grammar, punctuation, and word choice. For topics that I'm familiar with, I also help to analyze argumentation, flow, and overall structure.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I started working professionally in public speaking as a debate coach, and have since branched into speech and debate coaching at the collegiate level. I work with students to perfect both the presentation and delivery aspect of public speaking. With a good tutor, it doesn't have to be scary!

Amazing MCAT Tutor!

Patrick is an exceptional MCAT tutor who is very dedicated to the success of those he tutors. From the beginning, it's clear that his depth of knowledge and commitment to teaching is unmatched. Patrick was able to break down complex concepts into digestible chunks, tailored to my needs and learning style. His personalized approach ensures that every session is productive and engaging, whether through targeted practice questions or discussing topics I was struggling with any of the sections of the MCAT. I wholeheartedly recommend Patrick to anyone seeking an MCAT tutor; his dedication, expertise, and genuine care for those he tutors are what I appreciate.

Organized and knows his stuff

Patrick really helped me hone in on my weaknesses for the MCAT and study in a targeted and productive way to nail down topics that i had previously had trouble with. He is super organized and methodical in his tutoring and his scheduling and analysis of my studying really helped me succeed in sticking to a helpful schedule for my test and understanding what i needed to work on. He is super enthusiastic and patient and really helps you not only understand the material but also teaches you how to apply your knowledge in an exam setting in answering the unique kinds of questions that appear on the MCAT.

very knowledgeable, real life scenarios

Patrick asks you questions to get a feel for where you’re currently at in your debate journey. He’ll ask for examples. Then he’ll give you amazing practical lessons and tie them back to those examples. Then ask you follow up questions , and he’ll tell his own stories that relate. Everything clicks in my mind while I learn from Patrick, and I really appreciate him! Great, fun, upbeat nice guy!

Extremely Helpful in Biology and Chemistry for Undergrad

I have seen Patrick fairly consistently since my first year of college (I am a junior in college now), and I have found him very helpful in a variety of different topics. I have sought out tutoring from him for Intro Bio, Microbiology, Immunology, Gen Chem I, Gen Chem II, Genetics, and Physiology. He is really good at breaking down topics while also giving me space to figure out questions independently so that I actually learn the content. He has also been super helpful in terms of helping me learn how read scientific papers efficiently and how to interpret the results of scientific papers. I cannot recommend Patrick enough especially if you're an undergrad Biology student! I have tried many other science tutors but Patrick has been by far the most helpful.

So helpful!

Patrick worked with my daughter on her first semester college math class where she felt she understood nothing and by the end of the session, she felt so confident with the material!
