I have had a passion for and fascination with Math since middle school, but before then, I could not stand the subject. It felt boring and difficult. It was not until I had my fantastic middle school teacher that the subject finally clicked. I strongly believe this click was because of the passion my teacher showed for the subject and how much he would relate it to real life and make it fun. While I could do it well at that point, I still lacked the motivation to do it because I had yet to realize how important and useful of a subject math is. The turning point for me was when my teacher sat me down and talked to me like a person instead of a kid. This is what gave me the motivation to do better: having a teacher who saw me for my potential.
I went on to complete six years' worth of math in 4 years in high school because I simply could not get enough. Even more so, I majored in math in my Undergrad at UT Austin (Hook 'em Horns) to dive deeper into how concepts of math work and came to be, instead of just knowing how to use said concepts. Later on in my college career, I started to hone in on statistics-based courses because I found a love for this subject in high school. I enjoyed the statistics and analytics so much that I went for a master of Science in Data Science here at CU Boulder. Data science is the science of looking at data and coming to statistical conclusions from it. Math is my passion, and I would love to share my passion and energy surrounding math with impressionable students in the hopes of inspiring them as my middle school teacher inspired me.
In high school, I tutored all math subjects, including: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus 1. My first job here in Boulder was a tutoring job via an after-school program at a nearby elementary school. I believe in the ability of the student to make connections to real life when given the applicable example. This connection helps solidify concepts and is what I base my methods around.
