Hi, I'm Lucas. I studied Environmental Physics and Film at Pomona College, and I earned an MFA in Screenwriting from DePaul University, where I ran D1 track and cross-country.
I'm a big believer in communication. I love science -- especially physics and math -- because they give us simple rules that explain all of the universe. That's so cool. But science is also a notoriously academic field, and I don't think it has to be that way. I write movies that make scientific and environmental concepts easily understood in real, emotional, human terms, and I approach tutoring the same way.
Beyond content, I love structure. I've gotten really good at taking tests. I scored a 1570 on the SAT, 800s on the Math and Physics Subject Tests, and a 5 on nine different AP tests. I know how you can use structure to your advantage, especially on standardized test like the SAT and ACT. This was a huge revelation for me, and I'm excited to share it. It's true in screenwriting and essay writing, too -- structure is everywhere.
My approach to tutoring is practical: try the problems, make mistakes, go over them. Explore the concepts in depth or approach them from new angles. At the same time, learn the structure, so you can accomplish your goals efficiently and with confidence. And always keeping things light and celebrating successes -- this stuff is hard, but rewarding, too!
