Hi y'all! I'm Niah. I'm a middle school ELA teacher with an extensive background in tutoring writing and reading. I graduated summa cum laude with two Bachelor's degrees, one in Sociology with an emphasis in criminology and the other in English with a concentration in literature. I understand the importance of quick, clear replies and work with students until they feel confident in their knowledge. I like to help students feel comfortable asking questions and work through the problem, while still supporting and leading them to the answer.
At my university I worked for almost two years in our writing center. I presented at two--soon to be three--regional and national research conferences with this work and am coauthoring a journal article that will be published next year. My research and philosophy at my writing center have been focused on the participatory and reciprocal nature of tutoring. I love establishing long-term relationships with students, watching them grow over the course of many writing assignments (or many drafts of one medical school essay!). In fact, working on personal statements is one of the greatest honors of my tenure as a tutor, as students trust me with their stories and we work together to craft the best essay possible. Before college, I worked for an independent tutoring company, tutoring students K-12 in math and English.
While tutoring writing for my university's writing center I worked with students on projects ranging from lab reports, reading comprehension assignments, linguistics homework, medical school personal statements, literary essays, resumes, and so much more.
Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson! :)
