About Stephen

Bio

As a retired judge I am actively involved with teaching at several local universities. I began teaching continuing education courses to my fellow judges and attorneys. Then I fell in love with teaching graduate and undergraduate students. Over the last eight years I taught criminology, business and criminal law, criminal justice, political science, history and social sciences.

In addition to my career as a County Court and acting District Court Trial Judge, I served in many other offices...

As a retired judge I am actively involved with teaching at several local universities. I began teaching continuing education courses to my fellow judges and attorneys. Then I fell in love with teaching graduate and undergraduate students. Over the last eight years I taught criminology, business and criminal law, criminal justice, political science, history and social sciences.

In addition to my career as a County Court and acting District Court Trial Judge, I served in many other offices and positions. I served as a State Senator, State Representative, Criminal Prosecutor, Legal and Civil Advisor, Private Attorney and Political Scientist. As a teacher my fields keeps expanding as does my mutual love of learning.

I teach American and World History at the undergraduate university level. I was a double major summa cum laude with my Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science. My specialty was in American and Western History. My love of history led me to serve as an officer and board member on historical and museum boards including the Aurora History Museum.

As a retired state court trial judge and criminal prosecutor I have over thirty years of experience in criminal justice as well as business, civil, and criminal law. As a former state legislator and political scientist, I am experienced at political science communication, public policy, and public speaking.

I was a double major Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History before obtaining my Juris Doctorate. I have used that political science degree as an active political scientist for over 40 years. I have over 40 years in public and political life both as an elected official and as a trainer of political candidates. With real life experience in the legislative branch my knowledge of the legislative process is invaluable in understanding the practice as well as the theory of representational democracy or a republic as is practiced and devised in the United States of America. As a retired state court trial judge I mentored new judges on how the judicial branch operated within the governmental structure and perspective. As a college professor I include teach politics and government at the undergraduate university level. Having experience in serving in all three branches of our government and teaching government and politics I enjoy sharing my love of both with my students and through tutoring.

As a former State Legislator and Political Scientist, I am experienced at Government, Communication, Public Policy and Public Speaking.

I have over 40 years in public and political life both as an elected official and as a trainer of political candidates. I train them in how to devise, develop and present speeches and arguments to a wide array of the public at local, state and national audiences. As a trial and appellate attorney with over 30 years of experience in arguing cases before juries, judges and judicial appellate panels, including the state supreme court, I now also mentor other attorneys on how to improve their public speaking and presentation skills. As a retired state court trial judge I mentored new judges on how to present themselves in their public court rulings and decisions. As a college professor I include public speaking and presentations in every one of my courses. That is because if you cannot communicate what you know or learn you will never succeed at any business enterprise or opportunity. Finally, I regularly judge moot court arguments and public speaking skills by high school, college and law school teams throughout the state. There are simple, tried and true best practices for public speaking for all of these different public speaking situations that are clearly transferable for any public speaking engagement or opportunity.

My son and I have been taking lessons regarding the US constitution and US government from Judge Stephen on a weekly basis for a few months now. I had been postponing writing the reviews because I want to write more accurate reviews. First of all, Judge Stephen is extremely knowledgeable, we can ask questions regarding historical ruling or present ones. He can always answer the questions and point us to some documents where we can read more. Secondly, he is very accommodating. Our lessons change from one week to the next due to other conflicts. He always finds a time slot to accommodate our changes. Third, he is very helpful. He offered some detailed advice regarding our particular situations.
