LeTourneau University (Electrical Engineer)
Southern Methodist University (Master's)
My name is David, but you can call me Mr. Number Cruncher. I have over 10 years of experience working in the field of Electrical Engineering. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from LeTourneau University and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. My GPA for each degree was above 3.5.
Along with my WyzAnt tutoring experience, I have almost three years of online tutoring experience as a certified Tutor.com Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry tutor. This gave me great experience in working with students at the high school and college level. Tutor.com has a rigorous training program that enabled me to learn adequate and proper tutoring techniques. I am the type of tutor that patiently provides just enough guidance to allow the student to solve the problem on their own. This builds their confidence and enables them to solve future problems without assistance.
I enjoy working with students and helping them learn to enjoy math as much as I do! For an engineer, I have a very outgoing personality. My second choice for a career would have been teaching high school math.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and camping with my family, playing soccer and playing Legos and cars with my 5-year-old and 8-year-old boys. My wife and I were recently blessed with a 3rd newborn son in Spring of 2013. I also enjoy playing board games, guitar, and drums.
Although I have experience in all levels of math, I am most comfortable tutoring the following subjects: Algebra I/II, Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, and Precalculus. I am also willing to tutor many Electrical Engineering courses.
Thank you for considering me to provide your tutoring needs. I look forward to hearing from you! My name is David, but you can call me Mr. Number Cruncher. My son and David have been meeting for over a year. David is helpful in his High School classes in a way that is essential in his ability to navigate difficult classes. He has given different approaches and techniques that help in addition to what is taught in the classroom. In one year my son has advanced in his learning style, but also has David as an additional resource when he is struggling with a problem in his Physics or Pre Calc classes. David is a valuable asset to him and will continue to be as he prepares for his ACT's and college.
We are going into my son's Senior year in High School and started our tutoring back up with David after having a few weeks off for the summer. David is always punctual, professional and a big proponent in helping Dalton navigate difficult classes, we are pleased that David has managed to help my son score very well on his ACT test in particular with Math and Science. This will help him with his college goals. David continues to prepare him for advance placement classes, ACT testing and college goals. As a family we are grateful for the help and contributions David has given our son over the last two years!
David is fantastic! He is patient, kind and very good at what he does. I was recently in a panic with a course I was taking "digital logic" and he made time to meet with me that evening. After a couple of sessions with David I now feel comfortable, and confident with the material. If you are looking for a EE tutor he is your man.
David has been great at helping me better understand my logic laboratory and Verilog. He is also able to show me how Verilog is used in real life and explain better/more efficient ways of doing things. He is very patient and a great teacher, I am excited to continue learning from him!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing chess since I was in 2nd Grade. It is my favorite board game and I have been working with my 6 year old son to teach him the piece movements and basic game strategy.
I have a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (emphasis in Digital Signal Processing). It is a broad field of study. My area of expertise is strongest in the general Electrical Engineering studies (Circuits, Digital Logic, Electronics), Digital Signal Processing courses, and FPGA design (Verilog/VHDL).
I took a college level Linear Algebra course. Engineering courses rely heavily on Linear Algebra concepts.
I am an Electrical Engineer who has focused my career on Digital Logic Design. I have extensive expertise with both VHDL and Verilog hardware description languages. I have extensive expertise targeting Xilinx FPGAs and using Xilinx FPGA development tools including ISE, EDK and System Generator. Don't hesitate to contact me if you need assistance with general logic, digital logic, Verilog, VHDL or general FPGA design.
I used MATLAB & Simulink extensively while working on my Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. I also have a lot of on-the-job experience with MATLAB.
- Undergraduate level coursework in Probability & Statistics
- Graduate level coursework in Random Processes ("Advanced Statistics") for Engineering applications
