As an experienced elementary teacher, I know what it takes to motivate, engage, and help you learn. I have teaching experience in first through fifth grades. In addition, I have tutored dozens of students from a diverse background with a broad range of learning needs. I have worked with a wide variety of students including English Language Learners, special needs students, and gifted and talented students.

I have worked with a wide variety of students including English Language Learners, special needs students, and gifted and talented students.

In 2012, I completed my Master of Education program through Grand Canyon University. I am a certified elementary teacher in the states of Colorado and South Carolina. As a reading and math specialist, I have specific training in Common Core and varied learning techniques that will help you achieve your goals as a student.

As a tutor, I take to time to learn about you as an individual and as a student. Not only will I assess what you know and what you need to know, I identify motivators for you as an individual. By knowing you as an individual and a learner, I can create lessons and activities that are engaging and targeted to your needs.

I have a valid teaching license in both South Carolina and Colorado for grades K-6. In addition, I have taught first, second, and fifth grade for a total of seven years. As a tutor, I have taught students in grades K-6 in math, reading, and study skills.
Handwriting

Handwriting

As a teacher in the first and second grades, I have experience teaching handwriting. I have been trained in Handwriting Without Tears. As part of my training, I have experience diagnosing and creating a plan for improving letter formations.
Phonics

Phonics

Phonics is fundamental to reading success. As a lower elementary teacher, I have experience teaching phonics in a whole class setting, in small groups, as well as individually. I have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham method which is a multi-sensory approach to phonics instruction. I have successfully tutored dozens of students in phonics helping them to become successful, independent readers.

Knowledgeable and helpful

Tara did a great job working with my son who struggles with his handwriting. They met in person over the summer and Tara helped determine his areas of growth and helped him slow down, focus, and practice. He definitely improved with her help. Tara was punctual, available, kind and helpful. I definitely recommend her!
