Certified and Experienced Elementary Teacher-Learning CAN be fun!

Hello! I have many years of experience as a classroom teacher in kindergarten, first and second grade. I also served as an ELL teacher for two years for grades K-5. My family moved to Colorado last summer, so this past year I served as a para-educator in first and fourth grade while I helped my family with this transition. Now that we are all settled into our new Colorado lifestyle, I am ready and eager to share my teaching experience through tutoring.

As an educator, my passion lies in providing meaningful and engaging learning experiences that set students up for success beyond the walls of the classroom. In each of my fourteen years in D.C. Public Schools, I received the top ranking of “Highly Effective” on the district’s Impact Evaluation System and was placed at the Expert level on their career advancement ladder. I have a strong track record of helping students reach their personal and “stretch” goals in both math and reading. While I am proud of these accomplishments, I believe one of my most valuable strengths is helping students develop a love of learning, and proving the idea that school can be a place of joy and magic! With this belief, I assign the highest importance on forming positive relationships with students and families, and strive to create an environment where students are encouraged and feel empowered to take risks.

I have always worked in an environment with a high percentage of English language learners and students with IEP’s or 504 plans, making differentiation a priority in effectively reaching every learner. I believe my passion as an educator and my collective previous experiences make me a strong candidate to serve elementary students that would benefit from extra one-on-one support.
