I am MASAE. I was born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan. There, I obtained B.A. in English literature from Fuji Women’s College, and a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis on teaching English as a foreign language from Hokkaido University of Education.
In 1995, I came to the States with a Rotary Foundation scholarship to study at Graduate School of Brigham Young University, and obtained another Master’s degree in Linguistics with an emphasis on TESL, namely Teaching English as a Second Language. I further engaged in post-graduate education in Instructional Science and Technology at BYU. I taught English as a Second Language and Japanese as a Foreign Language, both at BYU and Snow College in Utah. After that, I established and managed one of the best-selling Japanese/Korean translation companies in the US for 24 years. I translated and edited patents, litigation, pharmaceutical, medical, business, and general fields in large volumes with tight deadlines at high accuracy.
I have spent a lifetime passionately assisting people to learn different languages and cultures and to build cross-lingual and cultural understanding. It has been intriguing and a source of pleasure for me to see them build self-confidence, to achieve personal growth, and to broaden their perspectives from such understanding. I have great skills and experiences in the areas of teaching languages and promoting cultural understanding.
