I graduated from Adams State University with a degree in Science Education. After a couple years teaching science I continued my education and took more math classes and taught math for 7 years before moving into school administration. I have tutored college students, high school students and middle school students over the years. I am able to break down complex concepts into steps that students can easily follow in order to be successful. I use student friendly language, provide examples and lead students to creating their own understanding as opposed to giving them the correct answer. I encourage students to consider different ways of solving math problems and using what works best for them.
As a math teacher I taught a wide variety of topics including pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, PreCalculus and Calculus. As a high school principal I still tutor students and substitute teach in math classes when I can. As I catch up with former students they often express thanks for being a teacher who helped them understand math and pass their classes. I believe students become more successful by doing problems along with someone who can break things into steps and allow them time to work each step before moving forward. I look forward to working with you!
