While completing my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley in Chemical Biology, my career path eluded me for a long time before I settled on pharmacy. I ended up enrolling in the PharmD program at UCSF, and while I enjoyed the subject material, it eventually became obvious to me that clinical work was not my life's calling. What I did enjoy, however, was helping my classmates to understand the course material in group study sessions. I even was hired as a private chemistry tutor for a classmate who was struggling in that subject material. Further, I served as a TA for our physiology course after enjoying the class as a student, wherein I led weekly sessions reviewing the course material for the year below me. These were the experiences I most enjoyed, and so when I graduated with my PharmD in 2019, I was beginning to wonder if perhaps education would be a better fit for me.
While I was deciding whether or not to take my Board Exams, COVID hit. I did not feel prepared enough to enter healthcare in a pandemic, so I sheltered in place with my parents and brother. As it turns out, he was entering high school and was having a very difficult time adjusting to distance learning. I thus became his live-in tutor, spending several hours every day working one-on-one with him in the subjects of math, biology, chemistry, physics, Spanish, and history. This extensive practice made me realize that teaching is indeed my life's passion. To this end, I have enrolled in a program to receive my teaching credential at Cal State University, Fullerton. I will be taking my preliminary classes very shortly and plan to enroll into the program proper starting this autumn. In the meantime, I would love to begin getting more experience with other students beside my brother. I have some clients currently, but I am hoping Wyzant can help me expand my base so that I can help fund my continuing education and help students with their educations.
