I graduated from High School a year early, having taken the California High School Proficiency Exam to place out. I moved almost immediately into the community college setting, then transitioned Cal State Northridge before moving to Sacramento and completing my History bachelors as well as a double concentration Bachelors in Geography. I became employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, mapping installations and projects across several states, while simultaneously enrolling in a Master's program through American Military University, where I graduated with a Master's in Intelligence Analysis. I am a member of the American Association of Geographers, and firmly believe that social sciences can be a realistic option for finding jobs with the right approach.
I have previously tutored outside of WyzAnt, particularly with helping underprivileged high schoolers struggling to graduate. I've also had a lot of experience with autism spectrum students, in particular those with Asperger's Syndrome. My favorite part about tutoring (and learning myself) is the moment of revelation when a student finally understands something they've been struggling with.
I study history for fun. That sounds weird, but I avidly keep up-to-date with international affairs, research subjects myself - beyond just Wikipedia - and don't rely on only the information provided to me by the History channel or a single text book. I believe history is genuinely fun and interesting, and believe that there is a lot more to it than learning just the dates that things happened (although I understand that is often the focus of pre-collegiate learning).
I'm pretty fun and easy-going. I coach a Dragon Boat team based out of Suisun Bay 3 days a week, and I've lived in all sorts of places with all sorts of people. I don't want to just help you pass the class, I want to help you so that you actually enjoy the subject material.
