I'm Kenny, a lecturer at the University of California, Davis who's interested in tutoring Latin. I earned a PhD in English literature with an emphasis in classics and classical reception from UC Davis in 2019. As part of my PhD I had to learn two foreign languages, and I chose to learn Latin because I've always loved ancient literature and philosophy and because knowing Latin is really helpful for studying the Renaissance (which is my main area of specialization in English literature). Since graduating, I've continued to study the language both on my own and as an auditor in UC Davis courses. At this point I can read fluently and have experience teaching Latin to friends, so I'd like to try tutoring.
As a grad student, I worked as a private tutor in English and then as a TA in college courses. I've been teaching university courses on English literature and writing skills through UC Davis and National University continuously since 2015. As such I have extensive experience designing lesson plans and study materials, giving helpful feedback on assignments, and assessing progress with quizzes, essays, and exams. My teaching philosophy involves making learning fun and engaging by connecting it to what students are interested in. As a Latin tutor, I'd like to work towards reading a Latin text my student will enjoy rather than just working through a standard textbook.
