Hello! My name is Kenny Connally. I have taught English literature and composition to undergraduate students at UC Davis and National University for more than 10 years. I earned my PhD in English literature with a designated emphasis in classics from UC Davis in 2019. Before that I earned master's and bachelor's degrees from Chapman University, where I also worked for the Writing Center as a tutor. In addition, I've privately tutored younger students from grade school through high school.

I can teach general reading and writing skills as well as all eras of British and American literature. As a published literature scholar, I have expertise in all areas of scholarly writing: formulating research questions, conducting library research, developing thesis statements, outlining, drafting, and editing.

I also have advanced reading proficiency in Latin and experience in private Latin tutoring. If you're interested in beginning to learn Latin or developing your Latin reading skills, I'd be glad to help!

I earned a Master's degree in English in 2010 and a PhD in English in 2019. I have taught many college courses on essay-writing, such as UWP 1: Introduction to Academic Literacies and ENL 3A: Writer's Workshop, for the University of California, Davis. I also worked as a tutor for the Chapman University Writing Center while studying for my MA and have taught younger students as a private writing tutor.

Latin

My PhD degree's emphasis in classics involved learning Latin, and I am currently fluent in reading Latin texts--I've read through all of Virgil's Aeneid, Catullus' poetry, Descartes' Meditations, Thomas More's Utopia, etc. I've published scholarship in reputable journals, including Milton Quarterly and Explorations in Renaissance Culture, that involves translation and analysis of classical Latin texts. With over a decade of formal instruction and regular private study, I also have experience tutoring friends in the language using the textbook series Lingua Latīna per sē illūstrāta.
