My name is Michael O., I graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I currently work as a Mechanical Engineer at a private consulting company. I have tutored students k-12 in a variety of subjects including algebra I and II, Calculus, Microsoft office, Testing and Test prep habits, and engineering specific subjects like AutoCAD.

My tutoring experience stems from my time working and volunteering at a local recreation center from my time in high school until I graduated college (~9 years). There, I also coached children k-12 in basketball, baseball, and soccer. I have kept in touch with several of my students and players and have had the opportunity to mentor them outside of school and sports.

I believe there are many different methods of learning and how to teach subjects. In my years of tutoring and in my own schooling I have learned a variety of teaching and learning methods and how to apply lessons on a student by student case. I understand that you are unique in your own way of learning and that not you may not able to learn or master subjects the same way as your peers. You may learn in a more relaxed and casual environment while someone else may be more responsive to a structured environment, and vice versa. My preferred method is to first see where your understanding of the course material is, then review any topics I feel will benefit you for the remainder of the course and future courses, then move onto the current topic using fun exercises and creative real world problems (aside from problems assigned as coursework) to help you retain the information the best way possible.
