As a tutor and teacher with Varsity Tutors, Professional Tutors of America, and the Huntington Learning Center, I've worked with age groups ranging from elementary school to college level, both one-on-one and in small group settings. I have extensive experience tutoring math (elementary through college algebra), writing and reading comprehension (elementary through high school), and science subjects including earth science, astronomy, physics, chemistry, and geology. My background as an academic researcher further strengthens my ability to make complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging.
My tutoring style is student-centered. I begin by asking students what they want to focus on and build our lessons around their goals. I also connect subjects to the real world and to students' interests whenever possible. For example, when helping a K-12 ELA student with sentence structure, I might teach the principles and then have them write an essay or short story about a topic they love, applying what they've learned.
