About Susan Yen Xuan

Bio

Back in school, I used to be a peer mentor to struggling students with Nursing school pre-req classes, ATI Teas, and even College Counseling. From this, I found that teaching is my passion. I love to see the aha moments in students, and just seeing students pass their exams and courses brings me so much joy. Thus, I continue to teach until this day.

Piano has been my instrument for over 10 years. I have finished all levels of music theory, and have passed the Certificate of Merit Exam for the Advanced Level for Music Theory and Piano Performance in 2015. In high school, I received A's in both semesters of AP Music Theory, as well as passing the AP Music Theory Exam from CollegeBoard. I have taught Music Theory in a classroom setting before. I have performed on small stages and large stages (Carnegie Hall), I have placed 1st in multiple international competitions, such as the International Duo Competition, the Carmel Klavier International Competition, the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Piano Competition in Vienna and Rome, the American Protege International Concerto Competition, and many more.

I have spoken Viet all my life. It was my first language, and it is my primary language. I went to Vietnamese school to hone my reading and writing skills, and to learn more about the history of Viet Nam. I remember loving the lessons about Vietnamese food and geography as well as all the different male and female heroes of Viet Nam. I competed in a book writing contest in 2018 and placed 2nd, and as a reward, my book was published and sold by NRCAL. Consequently, I then became Valedictorian of my Vietnamese Class with a grade point average of above 100%. I took a course at CSULB to receive an official certificate declaring my eligibility to teach Vietnamese, and now I am certified to teach the course.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Growing up, I was a natural public speaker. I gave numerous speeches in front of small and large audiences. I also have been the spokesperson/representative of my Viet and Piano school where I had to say a speech to not only thousands of students and parents, but as well as highly respected figures in the Asian American community. In middle school, I took a class in public speaking and scored the highest grade in class. In high school, I was the lead anchor of my broadcasting class and as a leader, I helped to train my peers in their public speaking skills.

She is the best tutor I have come across thus far. She gets straight to the point, flexible and knowledgeable on all subjects for the teas test. I have already passed the teas but just want to test in the advance portion of the test. I will do an update once my score come back.
