Bio

I am a University of Massachusetts, Amherst graduate with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, where I also hold math and art minors. I then attended Vancouver Film School and have edited several projects since. In recent years, I have discovered my passion for tutoring and have found few things as rewarding as being able to see individuals succeed due to my instructing. I truly enjoy helping others realize their potential and have been working in this field for 5+ years.

I focus primarily on mathematics which includes algebra, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. I have worked with many students in middle and high school, who were attending LAUSD as well as Charter schools. I have also taught students who were home schooled, younger pupils, college students as well as adults prepping for certification exams. I often find gaps in my student's knowledge that prevent them from improving their understanding and lead to poor grades. I help to identify and fill in these gaps and immediately see progress and more interest in the subject matter. I have had many people tell me that they got their first A's and perfect scores because of my help. I explain all the different methods that exist so that you find the one that's most comfortable for you, and I explain the reasoning to get to where we need to get to. I also excel at tutoring individuals in reading, writing, history, biology and Spanish.

Growing up, my father instilled in me the idea that if you learn something completely you will never forget it and that is exactly how I approach teaching. My method is to help students internalize the subject matter and build confidence at the same time. I explain how thing works conceptually, not just through examples or memorization, making sure that my students see the subject with a new clarity. ISEE

ISEE

Got trained and given a textbook for the test by Summit Educational Group in Boston in 2016. Familiar with all sections - math, synonyms, sentence completions and reading and know strategies for all sections. With my current student taking the lower level test we did lessons on fractions and equation solving before returning to the test style questions. For reading the best method is to process every paragraph by yourself and interpret it before proceeding onto the questions. For sentence completions the best clues come from conjunctive adverbs and it's ideal to think of your own answer before looking at the actual answers. For synonyms its okay to choose the word you don't know if the rest are familiar and seem wrong. These and other strategies are what I can provide for the ISEE.

Thoughtful and responsive tutor

Anna tutored my daughter in Math Analysis, Calculus, and AP Physics. She has a kind and patient demeanor and always worked until my daughter gained a better understanding of the difficult concepts. I highly recommend her as a math tutor and because she prepares so well, probably many other subjects as well. Overall an A+!!

An exceptional tutor

I would whole heartedly recommend Anna. My son has struggled with math all of high school and tried many tutors who either could not teach or indulged his natural desire to be passive and let the tutor do all the work. Anna challenged my son to think by himself rather than give him the answers. She figures ways to teach to each particular student's personality. In the end, my son was close to failing and ended the semester with a B, because he had developed more of an ability to 'figure things out' during the test. She helped him gain confidence and he was so much more relaxed from this newfound skills.
