For the past twenty-two years, I have worked as an AP English teacher and college counselor, helping high school students become stronger, more confident writers. I have guided them through the entire college admissions process, helping them craft personal statements and essays that led to acceptances at top universities including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and many others.

In addition to my experience as a teacher and counselor, I am an accomplished writer myself. I wrote and directed the award-winning film Teacher of the Year starring Keegan-Michael Key. I know that successful writing is clear, authentic, and emotionally resonant, and I show students how to achieve that in their own work.

The best essays come from speaking from the heart and revising with care. Students often tell me they feel at ease working with me, and that comfort helps them do their best work. Whether you are refining a college essay, preparing for an AP exam, or strengthening your writing overall, I am here to help you succeed.

I am highly skilled at guiding students and their families through the college admissions process, providing clear and supportive guidance at every stage. I have extensive experience supporting students with learning differences and have successfully helped students on the spectrum gain admission to top universities, including UCLA and USC. I take the time to understand each student and family, and I work closely with them as a team to craft thoughtful, well-developed applications that reflect each student’s strengths and goals. My students often credit my positive attitude and steady support as key factors in their college admissions success.
English

English

With over 20 years of experience teaching English at every level in grades 9 through 12, I understand how to support students with a wide range of strengths and challenges. I take the time to learn how each student thinks and learns so I can adapt my approach to fit their needs. My students trust me because I create a calm, focused environment where they feel heard, supported, and capable of improvement. Whether a student is struggling with reading comprehension, essay writing, grammar, or literary analysis, I can help them succeed.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

My approach to essay writing works from the inside out. I teach students to start by identifying the concrete elements they want to include such as facts, citations, or personal experiences and then build the structure and voice of the essay around that foundation. Students often find this method makes writing much easier and helps them structure it clearly in their own minds. I bring over 20 years of experience as an AP English teacher, combining deep classroom expertise with a clear and practical approach that helps students express themselves with confidence and clarity.
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

I have over 20 years of experience as an AP English teacher, where I have helped students analyze literature, strengthen their writing, and understand the craft of storytelling. I am also a professional writer and director, having written and directed an award-winning film starring Keegan-Michael Key. The film was made while I was the faculty sponsor of my school's film club, and many of my students performed in it and worked behind the scenes. As both an experienced educator and working writer, I guide students in developing their voice and writing fiction that is clear, compelling, and emotionally true.

Film

I am a professional screenwriter and director with real-world experience guiding projects from concept to distribution. While serving as the faculty sponsor of my high school’s film club, I wrote and directed a feature film, which included students as both actors and key crew members. The movie won awards at major festivals and streamed on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Peacock, and Paramount Plus. I combine industry experience with years of teaching to help students learn the craft of writing, directing, and storytelling with passion, discipline, and creativity.
Literature

Literature

I have taught literature to every type of student across grades 9 through 12, from those in remedial classes to those preparing for the AP Literature exam. I know how to help students not just understand what a text says, but why it matters and how to write about it with insight and clarity. Whether a student is struggling to keep up or looking to deepen their analysis, I tailor my approach to fit their needs and learning style. My goal is always the same: to build confidence, sharpen thinking, and help students truly engage with the power of great writing.

With over 20 years of experience teaching writing at every high school grade level, I help students become stronger thinkers and more effective communicators. I guide them through the writing process, emphasizing the importance of revision and showing how thoughtful editing leads to stronger, more polished work. I help students understand that anything they write and sign their name to is a reflection of who they are, and that their writing deserves the same care and attention they give to how they present themselves in the world.
