My 20+ years’ experience includes 5 years as a college teacher, two in high school, and 10+ inside college classrooms as an embedded tutor, receiving heartfelt praise from students of all backgrounds. I have helped struggling writers produce their first successful pieces, as well as unlocking the hidden potential of otherwise competent writers, giving them the tools to improve their style. I am enthusiastic, kind, highly observant, and patient, with a keen eye for grammar and style.

What sets me apart? First, I am a trained International Baccalaureate English teacher, guiding students through the careful analysis of both literary and nonliterary (including visual) texts. I have taught 1st-year composition, reading, and critical thinking college courses. I’m equally comfortable with native and ELL learners of all levels, from those who struggle to write paragraphs, to international students transitioning into US colleges, to post-grads seeking to break through communication barriers. I approach tutoring with patience, helping students to not only comprehend material, but also deepen their own thinking, develop truly original ideas, and express themselves clearly. As a writing coach, I help writers tailor the impact of their writing on others. My skill is extensive, ranging from vocabulary acquisition to research papers. Unlike many tutors, I have a remarkable ability to notice grammar and style patterns in someone’s writing on a first pass and can demonstrate better alternatives, leading to more resonant, sophisticated writing. I am a lover of literature, including genre works, and enjoy editing game manuals to evoke the proper themes and achieve maximum clarity. I am prepared, use session time fully, maintain records on student progress, adjust my tutoring to the changing needs of my students, and provide honest and detailed assessments of progress.
