Dear Students and Parents,
My name is Vinny, and I am excited to help you or your child find confidence and success in mathematics. My passion for teaching began at UC San Diego, where I served as a resident math tutor for the dormitories, providing dedicated academic support to students navigating challenging coursework. Since then, I have tutored over twenty students on an ad-hoc basis across various grade levels. I also bring a unique perspective from a twenty-year professional career at Kaiser Permanente. This extensive background in the professional world has gifted me with the maturity, reliability, and extreme patience necessary to help students move past "math anxiety" and tackle problems with a calm, step-by-step approach.
I currently specialize in elementary and middle school math, specifically focusing on the critical window of grades 2 through 6. I understand that the way math is taught in schools has changed significantly, which is why I have recently completed intensive retraining through Khan Academy to master the modern "Common Core" visual models and methods used in today’s classrooms. My tutoring approach is centered on "speaking the same language" as your child's teacher, ensuring that our sessions reinforce school curriculum rather than causing confusion. Whether we are working on multi-digit multiplication or the complexities of fractions, my goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and viewing mistakes as a natural part of the learning process.
