I have an extensive background in education dating back to my high school days. In all I am approaching 10 years of education(teaching/coaching) expereince. Having began as a head basketball coach for a middle school team(6th-8th) and also elementary basketball(4th-6th). I have coached basketball, football, and soccer for 4 years and I also had experiencing working as an afterschool program leader where I gave tutoring to elementary and middle school level students on all subjects from English and History to Math and Science.
I have two B.A's, one in Education and another in Public Policy, finishing my degree in Education with cum laude. I have worked with educational research groups during my undergraduate time and later obtained my Master's in Education in addition to my preliminary teaching credential. I have been a general education teacher for the past 5 years. I have mainly taught middle school math and science for 7th and 8th graders. In this role, I have done whole class teaching, led small groups, one-on-one tutoring. In addition, I have also ran clubs at my school including lego club(K-3rd), cooking club(3rd-6th), and have worked at a summer camp where I taught a variety of classes like learning to code with Scratch, Building code on an app, and science lessons.
My approach when working with students is increasingly analytical. I run some initial tests to garner where students the most support using rubrics and student feedback. I try to collect qualitative and quantitative data by involving the student in the process of determining what they need the most support in. Once we do that then I create a plan to target those skills and I normally set a structure that is flexible so I can adjust based on the student's needs. I use a variety of tools online and via paper. Any work we do is tracked through paper work and added onto an excel/google sheet so we can track progress on specific skills. Since I am a general ed teacher, I specifically focus on standards and how to master those standards.
