Hello! My name is Carly, and I am a writing and English tutor with experience teaching and tutoring students at both the high school and university levels. I obtained my Master’s degree from Boston University, where I was selected to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant.

During my time at Boston University, I taught a 25-person lab/seminar course for the undergraduate school for one semester. I led one class discussion per week, evaluated all written assignments, and provided detailed, individualized feedback to help students strengthen clarity, organization, and analytical thinking. I additionally held office hours, where I provided one-on-one assistance to my students.

Prior to my graduate studies, I tutored throughout all four years of high school. I worked one-on-one and in small groups with students across multiple subjects, with a heavy focus on English and writing. In my senior year, I ran and managed my high school’s tutoring class, assigning peer tutors to the appropriate students, guiding the tutors on how to better support their students, and supporting students with different learning styles and academic needs.

I specialize in academic writing, AP English, and college application essays, including personal statements and supplemental essays. I myself took both AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature, garnering a 4 on both tests, and went on to earn a degree in English literature. My tutoring approach is one marked by patience, guidance, and confidence building. I want my students to feel supported and encouraged, and to know that mistakes are natural in the learning process; it’s how we redirect and grow that defines us. My goal is for students to feel empowered in their ability to write strong, thought-provoking work and to gain transferable skills that will aid them not only in their academic careers, but in their lives going forward.
