As a lifelong lover and student of history, I am deeply familiar with history curricula at both secondary school and college levels. Helping my students to deepen and broaden their understanding of history and contextual analyses are some of the things I am most passionate about.
I graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in History, a 3.5 GPA, and was in the Dean’s Honors List. My undergraduate journey was enriched by the excellence and rigor of UCLA. I had the opportunity to take courses that covered a vast array of periods and geographic contexts, preparing me for a career as a historian and educator.
I am well-positioned to provide guidance on essay writing (argumentative, persuasive, informative), research (primary and secondary sources), critical thinking, literary critiquing and proofreading.
Whilst at UCLA, I provided English tutoring to Afghan refugees and that experience showed me how much I love helping students improve their grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Additionally, I am a proficient Spanish writer & speaker as I grew up in Costa Rica up until my mid teens. I love to help others practice and improve their Spanish skills (I aced the AP Spanish test with a perfect score).
By virtue of my autodidactic skills, I became a web developer in 2023. I am well-suited to teach students of any age how to dive into the world of web development as I have 2+ years of professional experience with JavaScript (frontend & backend), Python, HTML, CSS, and a wide range of related tech within the web dev world (hosting, deployment, CI/CD, React, jQuery, Shopify for ecommerce, and a number of Python libraries). I am also a holder of the Comptia A+ and AWS Cloud Practitioner certifications.
As an educator, my top priorities are to
- Understand my student’s pain points and target them for improvement
- Individualize my lessons in accordance with my student’s learning styles, strengths, and areas for improvement
- Provide measurable milestones for progress/improvement
- Inspire a love for learning
