I am Joonho, a UCLA alumnus with Bachelor of Science degrees in Neuroscience and Biochemistry. Having completed college-level courses in many science subjects and mathematics, I am aware of how complex some of these courses can be, requiring extensive interdisciplinary knowledge. Even in lower-level courses, solid foundations in fundamental fields are immensely helpful in learning and understanding new concepts, contributing to a more pleasant and rewarding learning experience.
From an early age, I enjoyed teaching and mentoring others, often helping my peers work through problems. In high school, I was a teacher’s assistant for course credit, and on Saturdays, I volunteered as a teacher aide at my local Korean School. During the pandemic, I decided to work part-time for De Anza College's Math, Science, and Technology Resource Center (MSTRC). As a STEM tutor, I supported many students in a wide range of subjects, including physics (algebra- and calculus-based), chemistry (general, organic, and biochemistry), mathematics (algebra, geometry, trig, calculus, and statistics), and biology (ecology, anatomy, etc).
My foundation for various subjects is rooted in my curiosity and enjoyment of learning new things. This knowledge has merely been supplemented through teaching others, as it is one of the best ways to further one's comprehension. As a UCLA undergrad and alumnus, I have continued my pursuit of knowledge through research positions, often taking leadership or mentorship roles and helping others pursue their respective goals. Through Wyzant, I hope to promote good study habits, positive mindsets, and essential skillsets: ultimately setting up the next generation of students for success.
