About Me:
I am a certified instructor with ten years of experience in college prep and secondary education. After holding many positions within the education field—from teaching in the classroom to counseling—I found my passion through working with prospective college students. In 2017, I developed a college admissions academy for high school juniors and seniors in partnership with UC Davis. The week-long academy prepares high school students for college through one-on-one application assistance, personal statement workshops, and financial aid seminars. Since its formation, I’ve assisted hundreds of students with their college applications. I now live in Los Angeles where I work with LAUSD students from across the district as a Personal Statement and College Application Coach.

How I Coach:
When working with any student, my goal is to look at the bigger picture. I begin by assessing what needs to be accomplished and what resources are available to do so. I take pride in delivering the best service possible according to what each student needs. For example—Working on a personal statement, but don’t feel you have the experience necessary for your desired major? No problem. I will coach you through finding relevant details in uncommon areas, while highlighting the personality traits that make you a desired candidate. Or—Overwhelmed by the amount of prompts and not sure which one to choose? I will help you outline which writing prompt will best suit you and your overall application. Whether you plan on booking multiple coaching sessions or just one hour, I will do everything I can to leave you in the most confident, prepared place you can possibly be to accomplish your goals.

I have had the pleasure of working for various school districts across California as a college prep coach and student advisor. I work primarily with high school juniors and seniors to finalize their college applications and draft outstanding personal statements. I also developed a college prep academy in partnership with UC Davis that mentors prospective college students from underserved communities on the college application process. Over the years, I have worked with hundreds of high school students who have been accepted to some of the most prestigious universities and programs in the country.

While working for Sacramento Unified School District, I taught in middle and high school English classrooms from 8th to 12th grade. I was responsible for developing a curriculum that was taught along with students' required reading lists. I guided students through the curriculum, teaching literary analysis, improving vocabulary, encouraging critical thinking, and emphasizing comprehension along the way. I also tutored students directly to help with their specific writing assignments and overall improvement in English.

I have read hundreds of college essays from students with a range of writing styles, abilities, and English proficiency levels. I proofread for clarity and overall effect by helping students improve their grammar and word choice, rectify typographical errors, and illustrate compelling ideas.

One of the greatest positions I've held to date was working as an English teacher for a distinguished Bay Area non-profit. Through this organization I was introduced to the concept of transformative teaching, a pedagogy that blends education with youth empowerment. I was challenged to teach written English while incorporating elements of public speaking through poetry, rap, music, and group performance. These unique teaching methods allowed me to hone in on students' confidence and message to the world. I continue to incorporate many transformative teaching practices in my tutoring style today and use them as tools to help students dig deeper into their written works.
