I have always loved history, yes names and dates can be boring and tiring, but once when I figured out it was about understanding the storyline of humanity and the context of the situations the names and dates got easier. Then I realized that the passion of history is THE STORY. Everybody likes stories, either in novels, tv shows, movies. those stories are all based upon US. So history is the story of US. It has the best stories. OK enough nerdy philosophy of history talk.
With that I have taught and tutored students of all ages to understand the story of who we are as humans, not so much to memorize all these facts in a book, but what those facts are telling us about incidences that have occurred. I don't sit there and lecture, you can read a textbook to do that. I want to help you figure out why these events occurred, Who did what? Why? How does it affect us? Right and Wrong, you figure that out. I'm not there to spoon feed you that. I want you to go to the source of what happened and understand it, I want you to interrupt history and the sources. To help you think on your own and see why the world is the way it is.
I have taught different subjects and topics for 15 years to all ages. My passion though is the Social Studies, especially History. I have had experience in individual one-on-one, small groups, study groups, and regular classrooms. I taught religion for 7 years, educational and job training programs for 6 years, and have taught in school classrooms for 2 years (World History, (AP) US History, Government). I have a B.A. in History and just finished the teacher's credential program in Social Studies.
