My name is Jason. I have 35 years of tutoring experience in various subjects, including Statistics, and 28 years of full-time teaching as a credentialed teacher. My teaching assignments have included mathematics, English/ESL, Earth Science, and Social Studies from kindergarten through eighth grade. Since 2024, I have been teaching mathematics for grades 4 through 8 at a private orthodox Jewish school in Beverly Hills.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Philosophy and completed teacher training and certification at CSUN. I also obtained certification to teach mathematics as a single subject (up to Algebra 2 and High School Geometry) from UCLA. My primary area of expertise is elementary and middle school mathematics. I am familiar with the skills required for students to complete middle school successfully and transition to high school. Additionally, I have experience assisting adults with math remediation, including preparation for community college requirements.

My instructional methods for school-aged children include encouraging analytical and critical thinking using a variety of techniques such as educational games, role playing, and interactive manipulatives like fraction/decimal/percent cubes and base 10 blocks. I also teach students to use calculators appropriately without compromising basic skills.

Much of my teaching experience has been with underserved communities, including students with disabilities, autism, ADD/ADHD, and minority backgrounds. My approach centers on supporting mathematical confidence and competence, following a growth mindset model. This involves meeting each student individually and viewing progress as personal development rather than comparison to peers or class rankings.

Finite Math

I have an extensive background in teaching elementary and middle school mathematics (for both public and private school). I have tutored or taught people from all ages and backgrounds. I have met all the necessary requirements, in both my graduate and undergraduate studies, including taking several classes in the course material covering what is commonly called finite mathematics. I currently hold a master's degree in mathematics education. I will help you not only cover all the material in any finite math course, but the necessary critical and analytical thinking skills necessary to be successful in any subject area. I am especially qualified to teach students with special needs. All of my supporting documents (degrees, course work as a graduate and undergraduate, credentials etc.) are available upon request.
