Experienced English middle, high school tutor

I am an educator who has 15 years of experience teaching hundreds of students in the Los Angeles area. I currently work as a substitute teacher for California’s largest school district – middle and high schools – teaching English Language Arts, social studies, and math. I previously worked for another California school district as a substitute teacher and paraeducator. I created lesson plans to engage students and enthusiastically teach multiple subjects through the project-based learning model. Furthermore, I have educated and supported students in special day classes.

Throughout the years, I have worked with students in small groups, one on one tutoring, and whole group instruction using teaching strategies to support their learning. Whether I plan to teach lessons or tutor students, I select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for teaching subject related material and new concepts. I utilize textbooks, graphic organizers, and technology software and applications to assist student learning.

My previous training and experience in working with youth has supported my career in teaching. For six and a half years, I assisted troubled youth in changing their lives through goal setting, positive reinforcement, and guidance at Pacific Lodge Youth Services as a shift leader and youth counselor. In addition, I served as a school counselor/liaison, and tutored students in English Language Arts utilizing my background knowledge in English and print journalism. Through collaborative efforts and hard work, the students steadily improved their proficiency in reading and writing skills.
