Hi friends! I'm Ron and I was born and raised in Southern California. I received my BA in Philosophy from Biola University and my MA in Philosophy from CSU Long Beach, with a 3.8 GPA. In addition, I have completed 27 units of education courses.

Here's a quick rundown of my tutoring experience: I started tutoring in 1997 and have been doing test prep since 2003. I gained experience working for a handful of companies before becoming an independent tutor in 2007. I have taught students of all ages, from kindergarten to college, and have worked in a variety of settings, from one-on-one, to small groups, to full-classroom, to remote instruction using Zoom and other technologies. I am convinced that all students are capable of reaching their goals given the right tools and guidance.

I have tutored many subjects over the past 20 years, but test prep is my specialty and area of expertise. I have spent thousands of hours helping students master the content necessary to perform well on the SAT, ACT, ISEE, and GRE. I tutor the entirety of each test—both the math and verbal sections (including Science on the ACT). That's convenient, since you won't need multiple tutors to help you prepare for your upcoming test. I don't have preset lesson plans; each student's plan is determined by his or her strengths and weaknesses, and develops organically as we proceed through our lessons.

When I took the SAT as an adult in 2008, I scored in the 99th percentile in the verbal sections (Critical Reading and Writing), and the 95th percentile in Math. Since then, I have passed all three subtests of the CSET: Mathematics. The CSET is used to establish subject matter competency for prospective K-12 teachers in California.

If you'd like to know more or have any questions, don't hesitate to teach out to me!

Accuplacer

Accuplacer

I have extensive experience tutoring the Accuplacer exams. Over the years, I've worked with numerous students to help them improve their scores and get placed into higher-level courses. Because I specialize in admissions exams such as the SAT and GRE, my expertise in the relevant topics extends seamlessly to Accuplacer preparation. I have the knowledge and skills to teach any of the Accuplacer exams, with the exception of the ESL tests.
CBEST

CBEST

I have helped many students pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test, or CBEST, in order to fulfill the "Basic Skills Requirement" necessary to obtain a teaching credential in California. I took the CBEST myself in 2004 and passed with no prep! I am well-qualified in all the math and verbal skills tested on the CBEST; my extensive experience with tests such as the SAT, ACT, and GRE naturally translates to CBEST prep.
ISEE

ISEE

Although I specialize in the SAT, ACT, and GRE, I have tutored the Upper Level ISEE throughout the years. I have helped many students boost their scores several points and get accepted into the schools of their choice. My experience with the SAT and other tests has translated well to ISEE prep: The Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension sections of the ISEE have a lot in common with the Critical Reading section of pre-2016 SAT (in fact, I sometimes use old PSATs for extra ISEE practice), and the the GRE has its own, more difficult, Quantitative Reasoning section.
Logic

Logic

I have two philosophy degrees (B.A. and M.A.). I am a skilled and experienced tutor of introductory logic concepts—i.e. what you'd typically encounter in classes such as "Introduction to Logic," "Introduction to Philosophy," or "Discrete Math" (I've taken and passed all three courses). Concepts include: categorical propositions and syllogisms, propositional logic (e.g. truth functions and truth tables), and predicate logic. I have helped many struggling students grasp and master these ideas!
Regents

Regents

Although I specialize in the SAT, ACT, and GRE, I have tutored statewide standardized examinations such as New York Regents Examinations throughout the years. I have helped many students boost their scores and attain Advanced and Honors designations. My experience with the SAT and other tests has translated well to Regents prep: The math tests, for instance, are based on the Common Core, just like the SAT.

Ron get results!

Ron helped my high school junior improve his ACT score. My son had already taken the test once and really needed to work on his Math and English scores. After a few months of working with Ron, his English score went from a 19 to a 28, and his Math score improved from a 25 to a 29. Now they're working on Reading and Science and still reviewing the other sections. Ron is a great tutor not only because he explains everything well, but he believes in student practice. To really make great strides, your student must be willing to do the extra work that Ron recommends. If your student is dedicated to improving then I am confident Ron's totoring will make a difference!

Excellent ACT Test Prep

Ron has been helping my son prepare for the ACTs. His approach is excellent because he requires my son to do prep work prior to the tutoring sessions. This is helpful because he can identify the areas where my son needs the most coaching and then they review those during the sessions.

Great Tutor

Ron worked well for my son Ethan. He was very patient and explained how to do the math problems in a way that my son could understand. After comparing a few of the tutors Ron was my son's favorite and Ethan felt that he understood Ron's way of teaching best.

Excellent Tutor

Ron has been helping me work through philosophy of language and linguistics. He is an excellent tutor and teacher. Not only is he always prepared and expert in the areas he teaches, he is also an outstanding communicator. He explains things by making sharp and clarifying distinctions, and providing memorable examples and analogies. He is also precise and very careful with this words; that's huge when learning is the goal. I especially like that Ron is always honest about his skills: even if he is competent in an area but doesn't feel expert in it, he will let you know. It's been a pleasure learning with Ron. Without any reservations, I'm happy to give him my highest recommendation!
