Hello,
I have been making art my entire life. I have been fortunate to not only pursue art academically but also professionally. Hello,
I have been making art my entire life. I have been fortunate to not only pursue art academically but also professionally. My personality is deeply inclined to teaching, not only art itself, but also to enhance an individual's own capacity to develop and "mine" their own creative process and break boundaries within themselves to explore their own imagination and its unique potential. My job is to help teach many aspects of the art-making process in order to allow a student to know how to bend (or break ) the rules so they can know exactly how to enhance their own artistic content and intention to their own unique vision.

I believe I bring a unique package as an art tutor: My schooling in undergrad taught me many foundational skills which I believe can be incredibly useful and can be presented and taught in a way that is not overwhelming. My experience at the end of undergrad and into graduate school also enhanced my appreciation for more "conceptual" forms of art.

Out of undergrad, I began showing with a well known gallery in Milwaukee, WI and did performances with two successful artists at Frieze Fair in London and Jack Hannely Gallery in LA. I have also showed paintings in numerous group shows and solo shows. I began showing with The West Gallery in NYC and had the good fortune to be mentioned in "The New Yorker" for a group show at Harris Liebermann Gallery. I also recieved other accolades in various publications over my career. A collector in Chicago organized a large show of his collection in a contemporary museum in Michigan which exhibited several of my pieces and was reviewed favorably as well. My work has been exhibited at NADA fair and is in a couple collections. I took a hiatus from the gallery world to explore comic art and have been developing a very large comic book that is all hand done of my unique universe. During this hiatus, I did show small works with BOZO Gallery in LA as well as Hunter Shaw Fine Art (at a fair in Long Beach).

Drawing

Drawing

I have been drawing 35 years rigorously. Won many awards during youth and went direct into undergrad after H.S. at the art institute of Chicago then onto Calarts for MFA. Received much formal training in figure, painting, and conceptual considerations along with mentoring from two pro comic artists. After undergrad I continued onward to have a career in the gallery world and have had work mentioned in the New Yorker along with other notable publications. I also have an intense love for analog illustration and comic art. I have been hand drawing comics for a long time. I adore color and markers and feel very confident in many aspects of the drawing process that will be exciting and fun. For me drawing in an integral part of moving through ideas as well as prep for large paintings.
Guitar

Guitar

I formally learned music via piano at six and was in a international touring choir. At age 13, I was drawn into guitar via Jimi Hendrix. I’ve studied many different styles (blues, jazz, rock, Tr. Indian music, and mainly Heavy Metal of all kinds). I’ve had some mild success with a band in Chicago. We tracked , mixed, and mastered a 3 track demo at Gravity studios. Doug McBride mastered the demo (he worked with manowar and many famous others). I’ve also written a tremendous amount of songs and continue to play and write daily. I have a lot of experience with lead and developing a personal style to service creative writing. I have also taught several people-particularly with an emphasis on technique. My approach is to study tabs of artists one admires and feels excited about learning then consolidate these styles, techniques etc as a palette to create one’s own unique style as it opens up so much potential. There many pitfalls and tricks within the learning process-my intention is to work with one who wants to maximize time to gestate into the player you want to be!
Painting

Painting

Had a successful custom portrait business before undergrad. I have had tremendous academic teaching as well as conceptual. I’ve had work reviewed in the New Yorker and other publications from group/solo shows. In a few serious collections and continue to make my own work. I’ve also done a lot of perceptual pet portraits as of recent for commissions. I’m confident in teaching just about any aspect of painting which will be exciting and not dry all in service of finding you’re own voice. This will be inner explorative, confident boosting, and demystifying if you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck!
