Hello! I'm Emma, a teacher with four years of classroom experience and currently entering my 5th year of teaching. I graduated magna cum laude in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education with a minor in Child and Adolescent Mental Health studies from NYU. Straight out of college, I moved to London and taught second grade for two years and first grade for one year. Teaching there gave me the skills to quickly assess a student's strengths and weaknesses and be able to creatively think of ways to engage them and encourage their learning. In addition, it gave me high standards for my expectations of students' learning as well as organizational skills to monitor progress.
After London, I worked as a private tutor for a family whose child has severe special needs. There, I developed my own curriculum to support the child's learning in school and was able to teach reading and math fundamentals - both of which the child could not previously access. I also supported the older child's learning by assisting with and supplementing their school work. Currently, I am teaching 4th and 5th grade English at a bilingual school. I also teach Math twice a week.
I believe in meeting the student where they are academically and using their interests to further engage them in their learning. I try to incorporate many different strategies (i.e. hands-on, visual, play-based) to ensure different learning needs are met. I enjoy seeing those lightbulb moments for students and helping them realize their potential. I want to benefit students as much as possible, so welcome any feedback or resources you or your child can provide. Feel free to contact me with any questions! I look forward to hearing from you.
