## Most helpful tutor I have ever had

Christine, 1 lesson with WeiI am extremely proud to write this letter of recommendation for Dr. Wei C, who became my AP Calculus BC tutor since late August 2012. Without a doubt, Dr. Wei is one of the best teachers and mentors I have humbled to learn from in all my high school career. A quick thinker with a precise eye for detail, Dr. Wei is a master of math. He has cleared all of my qualms and fear about calculus, a subject I have continually struggled with until he came along. What amazes me the most about Dr. Wei...

I received Ph.D. of physics from Boston University, and was a research scientist at Caltech. As a Ph.D. in Physics and former Math competition Champion in China, I have a strong background in math and easily scored 800 in SAT Math 1 and Math 2. From a teacher’s family, I also enjoy teaching students and helping them improve.

Prior to 2014, I've taught college Calculus classes online for UC Santa Cruz. I’ve also taught at different learning centers for SAT and AP math and physics courses,...

Calculus,
#### Calculus

Calculus is my favorite math subject, also the most requested one for tutoring. For 3 years, I'd taught college Calculus classes online for UC Santa Cruz. Calculus is a crown achievement of human intelligence, can also be a lot of fun when it's done right.
For the past 8 years, I tutored many high school students regularly for AP Calculus, most of them got 5s on the AP exam. I also tutored many college students for Calculus 1 to 3: students from PCC, CSULA, ELAC, USC and an online student from UChicago. All of them achieved A or B in their classes.

Physics,
#### Physics

I've tutored many high school students regularly for AP Physics 1, 2 and C, most of them got 5s on the AP exams. I also taught students for SAT 2 Physics, all of them got above 750.
I also tutored many college students: students from PCC, USC , UCLA, CSUN, UChicago for Undergrad and graduate physics classes. All of them achieved A or B in their classes.
Testimonials from students I tutored:
"My tutoring sessions with Dr. Chen were just what I needed to understand the complex world of physics. Dr. Chen Is extremely knowledgeable about physics and was able to explain the concepts in a way that I could better understand them. He thoroughly goes over the material and provides examples for each topic. He's professional and has also been very flexible with my schedule. Thanks so much! You're a life saver!"
R. D., senior at UCLA
"Dr. Chen is a very knowledgeable, patient, fun-loving and easygoing tutor. He really helped me understand the fundamental concepts of physics. With his help, I felt more confident and retook the SAT II Physics test. After working with Dr. Chen for one month, my SAT II Physics score has gone up to 770 from 640. Dr. Chen is awesome and I would recommend him to anyone seeking help in physics!"

SAT Math,
#### SAT Math

For SAT math, I can easily score 800 in half of the required time, while doing everything in my head. But that's not the most important thing. The point is that I know all the "tricks" and "traps" of SAT math, and can clearly communicate with students the best approach to different types of problems.
During past 10 years, I've tutored many students on SAT math, by mostly practicing with them the real SAT tests that I've collected, and pointing out the best way to solve different kind of problems. For students really good at math, I teach the algebraic or "textbook" way to solve problems. For students not super comfortable with algebra, I teach the "plug in" or "backdoor" way to get to the answers. As a result, all of my students have improved noticeably, from low 600s to high 600s, and low 700s to high 700s, a couple of them even got full 800.
I've collected recent REAL SAT test problems up to this year, which are NOT available in public domain. They are the real deal, and you can practice with my guidance and catch up with the latest test trend. Especially for SAT subject test level 2, very few real tests are available, but I've collected 20 of them and have helped students tremendously. SAT math is different from your standard school math test, in that it doesn't really require advanced math skills, such as trig functions or matrices (which is the domain of SAT 2 math). Rather, it adds "twists" to regular math problem and dress it up to look more difficult than it really is. The only way to get better is working through tons of past problems until you've seen most of the "twists" and won't be surprised at the questions they throw at you. For me personally, I've gone through all available real SAT math questions since the new format took place in 2016, and am thoroughly familiar with its content and variations.

## Phenomenally Helpful

Dr. C has been a fantastic tutor for my college calculus and physics classes. He is a very supportive teacher who strives to make sure that you understand the concepts behind what you are trying to learn, not just the particular problems you are trying to solve. No matter the question, he always has a clear, insightful explanation; there does not seem to be a single subject in math and physics that he has not mastered. Countless times, I have left my professors’ lectures stressed and completely confused about the material, only to have Dr. C’s teaching illuminate it. Once he explains it, it becomes easy. Overall, Dr. C is an outstanding tutor. I cannot recommend him strongly enough.

## Great tutor with excellent teaching skills

Dr. C helped my son since his junior year with both his AP Calculus and AP Physics classes. My son received top grades, SAT II scores and AP 5 in both classes. During his senior year, he also helped him with his college level Multi-Variable Calculus class with excellent results. His teaching skills and knowledge in these subjects are amazing. He makes sure the student understands the concepts thoroughly and can apply the concepts correctly to the homework and tests. Dr. C. is an amazing tutor and my son got accepted to a top Ivy League college to study computer engineering!!! Thanks to Dr. C for all his help. We are so lucky to have him as his tutor.

## Excellent tutor with extensive expertise in physics.

Dr. Wei was kind enough to help me review for my physics final. He knew every topic very well and was able to walk me through the more difficult problems. He is also very adept at explaining difficult material. I gladly recommend Dr. Wei if you are in need of a physics tutor.

## Very Knowledgable

Dr. Wei C. has tutored me in College Physics for two semesters now, and it has been a great experience. I went into my first semester having really poor math skills and absolutely no previous physics background. Wei was able to pinpoint my weaknesses right away, and guided me along as needed. He is extremely patient and has a knack for knowing when to let me work a problem out on my own or step in to help when I am struggling. His knowledge in both math and physics is superb, which gave me confidence that he would always be able to help me with the tough problems without wasting valuable time and money. His schedule has always been flexible, and he has accommodated me on every occasion when I needed to reschedule. I went into my final this week with a solid A in physics, and this is no doubt thanks to Wei. I would highly recommend his tutoring services.

## Very accommodating and helpful.

Dr. Wei was very accommodating and helpful. He agreed to tutor my daughter in response to our last minute request (day before a mid-term) and that is the only reason we didn't give 5 stars instead of 4, because under the circumstances, it would have been hard for any tutor to do an excellent job, as they had to spend some time on just coming up to speed on what my daughter knew and what she needed to study. Dr. Wei is very bright and helped my daughter organize her thoughts for the exam in a more orderly way. Thanks again for the last-minute help!

## An Exceptional Mentor with Patience and Humor

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. WEI C.!: We have been looking for someone to assist our son with his problem sets for his math competition program for gifted children. The problem sets are exceptionally challenging and although I have two graduate degrees in applied math based areas, I found myself unable to help him with many of the problems. I searched high and low for a tutor, but could not find someone who could get him through the problem sets in a timely matter. The first five tutors we tried in our area complained that the problems were too hard for our son, and that we were expecting too much from him (they all had graduate degrees in math based areas). Only Dr. C. had the patience to not only explain the material, but to also teach our son how to do the problems so that our son was able to learn how to critically approach the material. Our son has been so pleased that he can tackle these challenging problem sets, and was smiling and having a good time through all of his sessions with Dr. Wei C. Dr. C. also explained some of the history of mathematics to our son, and tied in several stories about various ancient Greek mathematicians - I am very impressed and highly recommend Dr. Wei C.!
