Hi future students! My name is Jonathan and I am currently enrolled at the University of the Pacific as a music education major. Currently, I teach guitar, ukulele, piano, voice, harmonica, violin, and trumpet. I play a variety of styles of music, and my pedagogy borrows from popular music education theorists. In addition to teaching the instruments, I also teach music theory and ear training. I have been teaching and performing music for a large part of my life, taking it seriously for the past 8 years. I have sang and played at weddings, talent shows, in ensembles, a band, and as a solo artist performing at concerts of up to 60 people. I have also given private lessons at people's homes, in my home, and over FaceTime and/or Zoom. During my time at Delta College, where I received two degrees, one a AA-T in Music and another a AA in Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, I was also an in-class English tutor and continued to be a reader for many of the professors on campus. I tutored and provided feedback for students involved in studies in poetry, creative writing, and higher level English.

What I enjoy most about teaching is the process, which is constantly give and take. What I love about teaching is seeing that lightbulb moment go off for my students. I enjoy seeing them get excited about what they are learning, and I also enjoy seeing the process they go through when they encounter something challenging. More than anything, I enjoy seeing those whom I have helped apply the knowledge they have learned to grow as artists, philosophers, and productive members in their communities.

Knowledgeable, enthusiastic and good personality

For me, personality matters and Jonathan has a good personality. He made a good first impression on my children. He keeps an age-appropriate attitude with kids, he is funny, enthusiastic, and has a good knowledge of music. He is also God-fearing too!.
