I’m Lan W., a professional and enthusiastic Chinese tutor. I started to tutor non-native Chinese speaking students in 2002 during my graduate study. After graduation, I taught Chinese at Chengdu Normal University for 5 years until I moved to the U.S.. During my employment I gained a National Teacher’s Certificate and a National Spoken Mandarin Certificate. After settling down in the U.S., I began to tutor local students one-on-one and in small groups. I taught at Torrance Chinese School, which had enhanced my skills of teaching large group of young beginners. Over the past years, I have taught students with multiple backgrounds and levels. As regards teaching, it is not only my career, but my favorite thing which has been inspiring me and bringing out the best in me.

I obtained my Master’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Nanjing University— one of the top 10 universities in China. Equipped with expertise, I’m capable of making knowledge and tricky problems easy to understand. I help students acquire authentic pronunciation, promote speaking fluency, expand vocabulary, master grammar, improve reading comprehension and writing skills. I’m also experienced in test preparation. Additionally, my lessons are enriched with cultural knowledge and fun stories which effectively help students deepen their understanding of Chinese language. My students enjoy learning with me because they always gain much from my lessons.
