TEFL-certified ESL tutor with 3+ years of teaching English

I graduated from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2013. During my time in university, I took a job teaching theater to K-12th grade students in after-school and summer camps at a non-profit organization focused on giving youth opportunities to discover the arts. While I knew I enjoyed teaching dancing and acting, I also discovered a love for teaching English during my time as an exchange student in South Korea. While there, I joined the English Club on campus at Yonsei University and became an informal English tutor a few times a week.

Shortly after graduating, I spent 3 years as a professional tutor, focusing on SAT prep and English language development for ESL high school students in Southern California. While working here, I taught in front of a small class and also held private lessons online for students who wanted a tailored curriculum. Altogether, teaching theater and English, I have a combined total of over 5 years of teaching experience.

Additionally, I obtained a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification in 2023 with over 120 hours of coursework based on solidifying my knowledge of English grammar, developing curriculum, and utilizing effective techniques to help ESL students increase their ability to read, write, and speak English.

I believe that positivity and patience are key in helping any learner - new or old - improve in any area they are brave enough to dive into. I will listen and work with you to figure out where you are in your studies and what areas you would like to concentrate on. I currently am focused on assisting students with English language development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I look forward to teaching and learning together!
